I must say, after seeing @MoutsGoat stick the boot into a number of younger players who never really got a fair shake of the stick, it's good to see him rallying behind one for a change

I'm with you on this one Goat. I love the delicious Bosnian Beast!

How many of those younger players made it Mikey?

Besic, while young, can not be classed as a young un, he was bought for "biggish" money and has played 30+ games for us.

At a complete loss over Besic, as most of us can see he has potential but he is way off being the finished article.
There are people on here who talk about him being the finished article, and he boarders on being a world class player. In reality we have seen little of him to suggest he is good enough to cement a place in the midfield, or even to suggest he is close.
I think he has great potential and with any young player I hope he makes the starting 11, as it means we are doing the right things behind the scenes.

Please don't make out he is the finished article, as he isn't

When McCarthy or Barry goes down this lad should be next on.
I wouldn't argue to much over that, it would depend on who we are playing

I think Besic needs to learn discipline and positional awareness, this will come in time but putting him in against the better teams may hinder his progression. When he has played he has shown great willingness and energy, but gets caught out in chasing the ball/player and can leave gaps.
I do believe he has got a promising future, but needs to be eased in as opposed to being dropped in

Besic,Ross and Jimmy mac will be some force from next year.
Will it take this for you to get behind the manager, I guess it would as he is playing somebody you rate so you would have to stand by his decisions.

Fickle is the word that springs to mind

I think he could have a foot in the 'maybe had words with the manager' camp.

I don't think Martinez is that kind of manager. I think it's just a case of little Mo not showing enough in training.

He could get a chance to prove himself tomorrow but I'd rather Gibson as this cup is really important now.

I reckon he'll start against Boro in McCarthy's absence. Would be mental to start Gibson and Barry together - as neither offer any pace.

Barry should play as we'll need his composure on the ball. Boro are second in the Championship and will go at us from the off.

Cleverley is a good option but I'd like to see him on the left to link up with Baines, who really should be getting a start in this one.

Joel

Coleman - Stones - Mori - Baines

Besic - Barry

Mirallas - Barkley - Cleverley

Lukaku

Subs: Gibson, Kone, Lennon, Naismith, Deulofeu, Osman, Howard

I would start Gibson, when fit, ahead of Besic and I think this will happen on Tuesday.
This not really a reflection on Besic but an acknowledgement of how good a player Gibson is.
