I think it sends the wrong signal that if you suffer an injury you have to earn your place back.

If fully fit the player was first choice for a reason.

What's wrong with that? Once he's fit to play he isn't actually going to be match fit is he. It doesn't make sense to drop an in form player for one who's going to take a few weeks to get back up to speed. Dragging Besic out of that team to replace him with a player trying to regain his form will just ruin everything that's been improved since Besic came into the side. That's common sense to me, you'd happily risk that just to get him straight back in the team?

If McCarthy comes back at the same time Barry is banned for cumulative yellows then problem solved!
Against Liverpool I would play besic McCarthy Barkley cleverly delefou they will try & outwork us & be first to everything if we match there work rate our greater quality & footballing ability will see us through Barry will struggle as they will try & run all over him

That one is not a tough call IMO...Stones on the bench. Form earned...he needs a timeout.

Stones was superb last night up until his knock, which seemed to shake him a bit and he lost discipline.

But up until that point he was sheer class - as he was against Spurs and City last week.

He probably should have been taken off as we lost our shape somewhat before the end, though he said himself that he wanted to play on.

Read some of the comments from City fans about him - to say they were impressed would be an understatement...

Was lucky to avoid giving the penalty away, I've got to say, but it makes up for the Stoke one I suppose.

They won't out-run Barry.

Thanks to Martinez you can see him developing and he's lucky to be next to Barry in the middle so he can be coached through games.

His naivety could be exposed against Chelsea and I don't think he has the temprement for the second leg so we need to take him out of the team again now for a while and allow him to develop.
Hahahaha Monster of trolling people

So if Besic keeps his place, McCarthy becomes a bit part player due to an injury? I am of the belief you do not lose your place from injury...you only lose it due to performance.
You play on form and effectiveness for the side, in that case Besic keeps his place

You mistake distance covered with number of high intensity sprints. Barry never stops moving but struggle against quick passing much like fellani does this was city's tactic last night get sterling on him to hurry him. Granted he played well yet again but he could of been sent off. Luckily the ref didn't book ottamendi for smashing osman as if he had Barry would have had to play 70 mins on a yellow

Unbeaten in last three games he's started now. Conceding 1. Two of these against City. Compared to the non existent defence v Stoke Leicester Bournemouth maybe Mo has tightened things up?

I don't think Liverpool will out-manoeuvre Barry though, mate, was my point.

His positioning is excellent and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Think a midfield diamond of him, Besic, McCarthy and Barkley would be great to go up against the RS with.

Great post mate, we play that midfield we'll finally win a derby again. But we all know Osman, Piennar or Kone will sneak in there

Fair points he has been excellent this season but when teams target him he is a walking Red card. It's also a mute point as if fit he plays.
