Don't remember saying anything of the sort. I've said previously he lacks responsibility in the final third against defensive oppositions and has a tendency to go sideways. I've repeated that point today. I've also said he has done very well in the last few games. I've said that a few times.

The difference I feel is that even though McCarthy often looks as though he is getting through a load of running it doesn't always impact on the game. We can still be overrun in midfield yet everyone points to the distance covered stats for our midfield three which will be huge. If they're not impacting the game though it's running for running's sake.

I always think you can feel Besic's presence on the pitch. He physically imposed himself upon Man City's midfield which directly resulted in us wrestling the initiative from a top side and controlling the game.

McCarthy is great for putting out the fires, stemming the tide, covering the last man, but he has to do those things because in my opinion he's not good enough to swing the balance of the game. Besic is potentially a level above him in my opinion and could take this team up a level (as he did the other night)

McCarthy is best in defensive midfield which is where his main attributes benefit the team.
