Everton will be without Muhamed Besic for their Premier League opener against Watford.
The Bosnian suffered a hamstring injury during the Blues’ first pre-season game of the summer against Swindon Town, and is expected to miss at least another two weeks.
That would put him out of contention for the game with Watford at Goodison Park on 8 August, but Roberto Martinez hopes the midfielder will be available soon after that.
Martinez said: “Mo picked up the injury against Swindon in the first game and is recovering really, really well. He is a player with a lot of power and a player who I expect to be fit just after the start of the campaign. I think he will miss the opening game but after that he will be close to a return.”
