Oh come on Messi looked like he'd been on the piss for most of this World Cup, no ones saying he won't be good but for the reported £2.5m do you not think it curious there wasn't more bellicose competition for his services?
Seamus Coleman likes this.
Yeah and Velios, Gauye, etc etc etc don't![]()

Also the likes of Vellios weren't the stars of their national team at 21 years age on the biggest stage in the world.
£4 million mate.
Let's look at some bargains we've signed in the past: Lescott - bought for £4.5 million, sold for £23 million. Arteta - bought for £2.5 million, sold for £10 million after we got the best out of him. Timmy Cahill - £1.5 million - what a bargain. Seamus Coleman - £60k..... Leighton Baines - £6.5 million. Jags - £4.5 million (or Beattie and Naismith, and a pittance, LOL)
Wonder why nobody else stepped in for them? Doesn't mean they weren't brilliant signings.

Shoulda got more for Arteta...oh well, but yeah, Moyes did have his strengths...finding bargain basement talent was defo his strong suit. This Besic business shows me Bobby ain't no slouch either.
Maybe all in for £4m but considering the Hungarian leagues never sold a player for anything like £2m I'd be stunned to think we had to pony up £4m straight off.
What we've bought in the past has no relevance to what we buy now any way, to much being put on this kids shoulders already. Let him get develop and grow he's got time on his side and will get plenty of opportunities there no point anointing him yet after 45 minutes.
I'm pretty sure Arteta only had one year left on his contract. When you take that into consideration, along with the fact that Moyes 'blagged' him to stay for one more season, and promised he'd let him go if we never got Champions League, then I think we got a decent price.
Erm think he'd not long signed a 5?year deal making hi the top earner in our history
