We all know Howard has been brilliant for us over the years, but his latest cock ups over the past few games has led to some ramblings amongst most fans.

Should we give him a break and chuck in the relatively unknown, but an international regular, Jan Mucha? I only say unknown due to not knowing how good of a keeper he is, basing his performances from the World Cup and pre-season games.

I'd be happy to give Howard a break and let him have a rest considering the amount of games he's played in a row, but changing keepers can sometimes knacker up the defencive organisation.

Being an American you know whom I'm going to pick

Mucha.

Howard needs to sit a bit and get his head sorted out. Last time he started making mistakes Sir Alex kept throwing him out there and it just snowballed on him. I don't want to see that.

THIS.

Voted Howard. A bit silly this poll though, as none of can make a particular informed opinion on Mucha.

First season with the wobblies for Howard. Hopefully he'll come out the other side. Telling that the rest of the team are playing under a cloud.

Im also a bit worried its Mucha's very presence that has unsettled Howard. When he was defacto number one at United he played well. Soon as they brought plausible competiton in he went to pieces. Same seems to be happening here.

Lets hope he regains his mojo.

He's been awful the last couple of games, Howard. But i don't think Mucha is good enough tbh. Howard is class when he's on form, but right now he is'nt, When the ball gets in the box, i get terrified.

But i love him, even though he's awful at the moment. What is Nigel Martyn doing theese days?

Tough one....Howard hasn't been great this season, but would dropping him shatter his confidence? You'd like to think a game on the bench may make him come back fighting, but could work either way

I still think he is the best keeper, easily. Unfortunately we're not top by 10 points, so can we afford to give him a week off? Mucha will probably start in the FA Cup, and then we'll see from there perhaps

How do you know he isn't good enough though mate? He hasn't been given a chance yet. Give him a start and then we'll see.

I voted Mucha...Howard needs a rest in my view...He's hardly missed a game since he signed for us..Plus he has had recent world cup too...I think Mucha deserves a chance..We are not in the carling cup anymore , so when is he gonna get his chance?...

But saying that..Look at Neville Southall...I'm not comparing Howard with Southall cos IMO southall was a way better GK...Southall was in between the sticks constantly for almost 10 years

Mucha.

Generally, Howard would just keep the spot and we'd be contempt that we don't know Mucha's level of ability. Now that he's been making numerous errors, it's a good chance to take him out, even if only for a few games. I think Howard at his best is about a 7.5/10 goalkeeper overall - Amazing close range shot stopper, I don't rate his efforts to save from long range, his kickings poor (LEFT FOOT IS ABYSMAL), etc etc etc.

So I see this as an opportunity to try out an international keeper, who is younger and could possibly have better overall ability than Howard - you can only tell if he gets a run of games... Not one or two. He would obviously have to settle the nerves a bit having never played a premier league game.

I don't think Howards too bad, I think we could potentially have a better keeper on our bench though and right nows probably the perfect time to find out.

If Moyes drops Howard, then I don't know... I guess I'll be ABSOLUTELY STUNNED!

Mucha's only competitive games for us have been against Huddersfield (5-1 victory) and the debacle against Brentford (1-1, loss on penalty shootout)

He didn't keep a clean sheet in either of them, but the Huddersfield goal was a Heitinga own goal - keepers are rarely to blame for that. And in the Brentford game he saved a penalty in the second half, keeping us in the game.

Then again, i've seen no footage of this, also haven't seen footage of the shootout - where misses from jags and beckford cost us, and, ALL FOUR Brentford pens went in - thus i wouldn't know if they were extremely well executed or badly defended by Mucha. Then again, on the OS there's this voting thing where there's a little green bar next to every player's name for fans judging performance - Mucha excels in both those games.

Considering this, Mucha doesn't really seem like a bad keeper. Ability-wise, he'd probably be able to step in for Howard. My main worry, though, is the defence communication. Howard has a lot of authority, he communicates well, speaks the language fluently and is easily good enough to keep the defence organized. Mucha just might not be able to field that skill. Who knows, though?

Howard's form has been worrying at times but decent at others. He has committed some embarrassing mistakes, but is still capable of playing really well. Like remember the saves against united? Some of the most incredible goalkeeping i've seen from him. Also, i wouldn't think he did a bad job against Chelsea. He can hardly be faultet for the penalty against us, especially the foul on Anelka - basically Anelka ******* up his rounding of Howard and saving face by bundling straight into him.

And then again, only the manager knows all the fine secrets of the team harmony, training performances, and so on. He's got faith in Howie, and i doubt he'll be dropping him anytime soon. If, hypothetically, Moyes left and some new guy took over, the new guy would go for Howard in goal. I'm just looking forward to Mucha keeping a clean sheet against Scunthorpe.

And the prize for understatement of the year goes to..
Southall at his peak was the best goalie in the world, I think Howards vulnerability is affecting the defence and vica versa, we wont know how good Mucha is unless he gets game time, but then that can be said about a few squad members, secret weapons etc..

voted Mucha, based on the fact that he deserves his chance. Howard is looking increasingly shaky and needs to know that he is not untouchable.

But we really should get Poul Robinson in, could be another Nigel Martyn in him.

give mucha a five game run and lets see how he does, howard is off form and not getting any better, im biased to be honest as i think tim isnt that good anyway, cant control his area dosnt come for the ball ,long shots baffle him and cant hold onto the ball when saving , pushes it out and now seems to have added getting beat at the post from an angle, good reflex saves/ kicking thats it. would flog him and buy shay given off man city
