Moyes Watch @ Real Sociedad

Was a pretty famous moment.
When you think about it, for a 'legend', if you look at his career what exactly has he done?

He achieved nothing at Everton (a bit part player in an FA Cup run) who did even less when he returned second time around.

In fact, what did he leave in the game all told? What's his legacy? Throttling a few players and house burglars.

The ultimate man of straw.

I don't think it's manager speak to be fair mate, without sounding rude, maybe it's just a lack of your own knowledge on that regard?

it's not really that hard to comprehend what the terminology means like.

I agree, hence the nature to hold back comment.

but its like taking a league 2 manager, sticking him in charge of real madrid for a year. He may be good, he may be terrible. But when he walks away from the job, having better or different coaches at least with better/different types of player to manage would surely to some extent improve him as a manager?

Said league 2 manager might drop back to that level afterwards but he then improves his team enough to gain promotions rather than to hold their own in the league.

A stretched example i know but you get the general idea.
Yeah, I suppose so. we all grow.

Wash your mouth out.

Laughing at Moyes' latest round of interviews this weekend:

- He's desperately wanted now in the PL, but he prefers to put down roots and stay in a bottom half of the table Spanish club...living his life out of a hotel.
- He's had loads of cash offered him to spill the beans on his United stay, but he's too dignified to talk about it...except those 20 odd interviews he's done already on the subject
- He brought Coleman to Everton and seen he wasn't ready to be a RB at that point so loaned him to Blackpool (nothing about playing him out of place at RM for 18 months in between like)
- All the players at 'La Real' respect him and knows what his 'project' is now.

Hilarious.

Moyesie wants to get something on his head out there, he's clearly suffering from sunstroke.

Come on, twisting the facts quite a bit here.

He kept Sociedad up last season and has just started this season. They're hardly a bottom half club the same way Martinez is not preferring to stay in a bottom half club just because we finished there last season.

He's spoken about his time at United yes but I've not seen him throw anyone under the bus although it must be tempting to do so or talk about Van Gaals relatively poorer performance considering how much they got to spend.

Moyes bought in Coleman, gave him his debut and played him in Europe. He then got him a great loan. When he returned we had no options on the wing so he played him there for a season. He then moved him back to his natural position. So to conclude Moyes picked up a 60 k player from Ireland and in a few years turned him into the best right back in the league. What exactly did he do wrong? Or is this one of those retrospective stupid arguments a bit like those people who like to pretend that Barkley at 17 was the same player that he is at 22 so should have been starting every game under Moyes.

I cant wait for Moyes' book: "How I Took The Best Team in English Football and Turned Them Into Newcastle".

Come on Moyesie, spill the beans.

What would Van Gaal's book be? 'How I spent a quarter of a billion and almost got beaten to fourth by Rodgers and his lambrini/lolotelli front line'.

United recruited poorly there. When Moyes was fired all the talk was that he'd had a top squad and just needed to carry on. Now than Van Gaal is there suddenly the squad was awful and he's 'rebuilding'. Everyone knew Moyes was a long term rebuilding manager. If they really thought it was a project they should have given him the time and money to complete it. If they wanted someone just to keep going, they should have got an Ancelotti type just to do a few years. They did neither. They tasked Moyes with rebuilding the team and then gave him no time and little money (relatively). They're now trying to rebuild and Van Gaal is playing roulette in the candy store with money. Moyes under performed no doubt but he was on a burning platform. He could barely touch any of Fergie's old players (eg. the insistence of the media that he had to play 442 with wingers and Rooney RVP) whereas United realised a lot of these players were past it and gave Van Gaal free reign to wield the axe.

That restructuring argument only goes so far (and he did spend a lot of money, btw). It'd carry more weight if he hadn't left his successor at Everton with a massive restructuring job of his own.

The facts speak for themselves though: he took control of United who were champions and a regular CL qualifier and blew it. His successor immediately recovers their CL status.

Moyes was out of his depth.

Wrong man for the wrong job clearly. But would Moyes have got top 4 last season considering the state of the rest of the league and Di Maria, Blind, Rojo, Shaw, Herrera, and Falcao on board? Who knows but he would have had a chance.

Please, a massive restructuring job for Roberto? A great back 4 with Distin's successor already on the books in the form of a player who may command 50 mill in the market. The best full backs in the league with Oviedo in reserve. A midfield containing a prodigious talent also probably valued at 50 mill, Gibson, and Fellaini (27 mill). He also left Mirallas and Naismith in their primes with Pienaar and Osman just about to enter their twilight years but still of use.

The parts he left slightly in disarray were obviously a replacement for Neville and long term replacements for Pienaar and Osman. The striking department was not brilliant but Martinez still got good fees for Jelavic and Anichebe and turned down one for Naismith.

If anything Martinez has not restructured with a lot of our key players still Moyes's players. He should have got a new keeper, he's only just got a new CB after all this time, he's effectively replaced Neville with an equally bad Barry and traded the Fellaini cash for Lukaku, and the Anichebe cash for Kone. Up until this window we were still hugely reliant on Mirallas and Osman and we have still not replaced Pienaar.

I'd say Martinez got a good handover but rested on his laurels when he should have proactively replaced some of these players much sooner. Howard Distin Osman Pienaar Jelavic needed proper first team replacements in probably the summer after the first season. We went for cheap quick fix loans instead like Traore Mcgeady Atsu, Barry on a free, Robles and Alcaraz. Perhaps the boards fault. You still feel though that this squad has got holes in it and deadwood that shouldn't be there after Roberto has had 5 windows. That's not Moyes' fault.

Or, i suggest you could highlight:

Stones
McCarthy
Besic
Barkley
Cleverley
Deulofeu
Lukaku
And possibly Funes Mori soon as being top players who Martinez has brought into the squad...

For me he has had and still has a big job to rebuild the squad but his one fault has been not getting rid of players unless their contracts have expired (unless they rock the boat like saha or he shipped them on arrival).

Playmaker and keeper are really now the only 2 positions in the first eleven he needs to improve other than squad quality.

Fergie left him with an awful squad and hired him as his successor as a long term project. He basically told Moyes to turn United back into the great Man United in a couple of years. Even Fergie didn't see the sack coming.
