Player Valuation: £150m
Liverpool Echo.co.uk - Everton FC - News - Time for Everton FC players to step it up - David Moyes

DAVID MOYES has warned his Everton players to start delivering the goods or face the chop when the club’s injury crisis eases....

“The players who are available need to stand up for themselves. A lot of them are playing out of position and doing jobs that are unusual for them but I can’t make excuses. They've got to play better no matter where they play...If we don't get performances out of them then ultimately they will be changed. I'm like an elephant, I don't forget. I don't forget if people don't perform and let me down."

I dont see this as a good motivational move to be honest. You cant expect a defence to be conjured up from that mess just because you point the finger. They're already performing to their limits/limitations. He'll get zero response from that broadside.

It's not just the players that need a kick up the backside. Moyes' decision making has been poor this season.

It's a team thing, and they win together and lose together. Manager included.

Anyone know if Pienaar is back today?

Nobody is back today, it's as you were, maybe not Saha.

Moyes does need to say this, but he also needs to sort himself out also. I honestly believe he is relinquishing all responsibility once the game kicks off, whereas that is where a great manager really comes into his own.

He says something like this at least once a season:

Nov 2008: Meanwhile, David Moyes laid down the law to his under-performing Everton players yesterday and challenged them to 'justify their big reputations'. The Everton manager watched his side blow their chance of moving into a top six place in the Barclays Premier League with a lacklustre 1-0 defeat at Wigan on Monday.

As he prepared to face Tottenham at White Hart Lane, Moyes admitted he was ruing only buying £15million midfielder Marouane Fellaini prior to the window shutting.

'We take our defeats quite badly here and I cannot hide how disappointed I was with what happened at Wigan,' he said. 'I cannot bury my head in the sand and ignore what went wrong and I did not let it go unaddressed.

'The players realised how I felt. We talked it through and then moved on, and they know I am looking for an improvement all round against Tottenham.

'I have said to them before and I will say it again: "Come on, if you've got big reputations, stand up and be counted".'

Didnt do any harm this time last year!

Moyes is absolutely right.

There's too many in that side feeling sorry for themselves. That midfield hasn't performed in months.

That's exactly what I've posted recently.
There are certainly room for improvement from the current player we're left with.

Archive master you.

Last year is last year mate. This is a different season, different dynamics.

I think it is a fair arguement. The players we put out are not the best we have. They are all we have and I would like to think are capable of giving us better than what they have done.

This is real time experimenting to see if we have good enough squad players. The answer thus far is a resounding not even close.

Another crock of [Poor language removed] from Moyes.

Why not just stick the bloody tea lady in centre mid and expect her to play well.

Cause thats what it sounds like he's saying.

No excuses is just total bullshit it really is.

"Sorry boss i cant play today i had my legs amputated yesterday". "I don't care, i wont accept any excuses, now get out there and play well or you're dropped".

All true mate but its generally accepted in most facets of behavioural psychology that past performence is the best indicator of furture potential.

Lets get behind the team and manager and see how that works out!

Davey Moyes, Davey Moyes ................!

At kick off, we always give the team the benefit of the doubt and get behind them (y)

Its just that by the final whistle they have knocked the will to live out of us all :D
