Moyes transfer history

The mancs seem convinced the problem with their summer is their new chief executive Edward Woodward. Hes the one who negotiated the deals and offered the stupid low fees. No one is blaming Moyes for it.

If you think "no one" is blaming Moyes you haven't been listening to Mancs bleating on the radio or read any of their message boards.

I'm not sure who to point the finger at at the Fellaini saga in terms that they could have bought him a month ago for £22m or whatever the clause was. Was it Moyes saying wait and we'll get him for less? Was it the Chief Exec saying no? Was it that he wasnt first choice and it was a bit of a panic buy?

I just dont get it really. Fellaini could have been their player two months ago for £5m less and would have had a whole pre-season with them. I just don't get it

He was clearly fourth or fifth choice behind Fabregas, Thiago, Khedira probably and a few others.

Dithering Dave never has been able to just put his weight behind a player and go with it; the problem at United is that the character weakness has been exacerbated and it's cost his new club £5m.

I am absolutely made up with our dealings..keeping Bainsey was crucial and getting Lukaku is amazing BUT i am more convinced now more than ever than Moyes has had a bigger part and has been responsible for our club's lack of ambition in the market over the years.

Over the years we have heard many excuses, money, permits, cudnt get it over the line in time etc but Man Utd have witnessed a really poor and knee jerk window at a time when a new manager has come in, they have an ageing squad and have had their poorest start for 20 years... this window was and should of been a statement of intent in light of the above... and what happened, they paid over the odds for a target they wanted early in the window, they lost out on numerous other targets and they have let the competition dirtectly around them strengthen.

I really believe that again Moyes has has a major factor in this, with his lack of conviction and trying to get the club the best deal, but again this has backfired.

People may challenge this and blame woodward but to me this stinks of the moyes impact.

I for one, as a club would never deal with them again if possible and will be happy when he is sacked future...

I hate Moyes guts but saying he didn´t do well within the budget he had to work with is just idiotic.

Martyn, Cahill, Arteta, Baines, Pienaar, Coleman, Mirallas, Gibson to name a few.

By the way exchange "hate" for "strongly dislike". I don´t want to come across and nut case.

The dithering tag is clearly accurate, but to blame Everton's struggles in the transfer market on Moyes is ridiculous.

The fact that McCarthy couldn't be bought until Fellaini was sold shows how difficult it is to operate under Kenwright's board.

Agree with the OP. Everyone used to say ‘imagine Moyes with money’ but we don’t need to imagine anymore because we’ve just witnessed he’s exactly the same with money as he is without it.

He has no real plan in the tfr market. Fabregas is a playmaker who was never going to leave Barcelona, Thiago is a playmaker, Fellaini is not. Fellaini is a defensive midfielder who was used by Moyes as the deep lying target man. How does that work? You either need a playmaker or you don’t. United always played with width under Ferguson and really stretched sides with pacey wingers. Moyes doesn’t do wingers, he’ll fill that side with central midfielders and have the full backs bombing on.

Same as when he was with Everton. He bought James Beattie who relied on crosses to play as a lone striker and hold the ball up. He tried to play Jags as a holding midfielder, until eventually settling on him as a centre back. What was the point of signing Oviedo?

I wonder about that special room in Finch Farm with his chalkboard notes and multiple questions about players. He takes so long to make up his mind that he seems to have forgotten what it is he wanted in the first place.

Moyes did have his success in the tfr market no mistaking that (albeit most of them as loan signings initially), but he also had a lot of failures too.

He tried to use the Summer to abuse his friendship with Kenwright, undermine Martinez and get Fellaini and Baines on the cheap. Everton played a blinder in that regard.

I’m really pleased with Everton’s business in the tfr market. They appear to have acted quickly and decisively when it mattered most. It seemed Lukaku was WBA bound and then suddenly Everton were back in the driving seat. Suddenly the squad has more options than it’s ever had before, and there is actually competition for places in most areas. The team will no longer just pick itself.
