Moyes transfer history

The figures are from transfermarkt, which explains any inaccuracies.

I think Moyes is at his best in the transfer market when he's methodical and perhaps even cautious. Yobo, Arteta, Pienaar and Fernandes were very successful loanees. And I imagine that he watched Cahill, Jagielka, Baines and Lescott over a long period of time.

Yakubu, Johnson and Beattie were some of the top strikers outside the elite clubs so maybe he bought them for their goal-scoring record alone without thinking how they would fit into the team?

We know that he bought Bily on the recommendation of Hiddink but we already had Pienaar in that position and we couldn't afford to spend that much on a squad man, so what was the logic? Ditto Heitinga. Was he supposed to be a utility player covering right back and central midfield? Very quickly he made it clear that he wouldn't play at full back and that he wasn't especially adept in the middle of the park. Alongside Van der Meyde (however much he cost) and Kroldrup they appear to be out and out punts.

It's difficult to square it with the impression that we're given of Moyes as being diligent to the point of obsession.

He did well in the transfer market, i don't think anyone can turn around and say well who signed players like Arteta, Cahill, Pienaar (1st time), Baines, Lescott, Jagielka and Coleman for a combined £20.05m plus your Martyn's aswell, but he was a ditherer, and as much as it may have been Ed Woodwards, showed at Man. Utd.
I can't begrudge Moyes for his tenure at Everton, even after his pathetic, and quite simply disrespectful approach for Baines and Fellaini, but as someone else mentioned, his transfer class started to drop off towards the end, and I felt he kind of overstayed his welcome, that he'd taken us as far as he could.
His biggest setback was that he was too mindset on not losing and settling for a point, than pushing for a win, Norwich away is the striking memory from last season, which was just a joke. The top 4 mentality was laughable too, he'd be happy going to anfield and settling for a 0-0 from the offset, where most fans would probably be more content at least if we gave a bit of heart.

Either way, what's done is done, and he's said his bit, i hope he knows his most hostile away game of the season will be here. He's managed to lose 11-years of respect in a couple of months.

Yes he came out with some stupid and petty statements since he left but he was an absolute genius of a manager to get us from where we were to where he left us on the money he spent.
