Moyes to west ham

Problem is the club was never in a financial position to compete. The glass ceiling was real with that financial setup

While that's a reasonable assessment and one I can't argue with, for me that should be seen as a challenge not an excuse, his comments like the knife to a gun fight and being happy to just get out of old Trafford alive ones said to me that he never really believed he could break it while at everton.

As you can tell I was never a big fan but I appreciate the job he did at the time

I honestly think he did as well as he could with the resources available. He outperformed the better funded Aston Villa and usually did better than Spurs

In the top 3 of my most enjoyable days at Goodison that, thanks for posting.

Terrible display of one dimensional hoofball wasn't it ?

After today's showing, oh to have players with the hearts of Cahill, Pienaar, Arteta and the Yak nowadays, and a great team spirit which Moyes had generated over time. Osman also was superb that day and fully deserved his goal at the end.

One can only dream. We have fallen a long way since those days of Fortress Goodison and regular top 6 finishes.

Will always be happy to see him do well. Best manager we've had in modern times, which is partially a sign of us being gash but also that he's nowhere near as bad as people liked to make out.

Every time I watch that 'game' (If I can glorify it by referring to it as game) I get the urge & desire to physically throw Paul McShane in a volcano for his fault for 4/5 of Everton's goals. I honestly wondered if he was having a mid-life crisis that game, I can distinctly remember him talking and pointing to an empty space of the pitch, rather than a team-mate, it was bizarre, there was no-one there, who was he trying to instruct? Unless Goodison Park has a ghost who likes to trick the opposition.

Look at the video at exactly 1m 55s seconds and play it, cue the 'Benny hill' song. Then, put it to 2m 53 seconds when you play a long-ball forward. Look at how McShane get's the right side of Andy Johnson, and just look at the strength he has to push him off the ball, Jaap Stam would be very proud. Look how McShane violently pushes Johnson when the ball is already in the net, letting him know who he is (Before Johnson starts celebrating)

What a guy.

But did he really? When he took over everton were largely still regarded as a sleeping giant with the 90s regarded as a blip, when he left everton were largely regarded as a small club overachieving by finishing 6th.
He put his own glass ceiling in place early on.

Financially he did well but it's football and as we see today reputation plays a bigger part than money.

In that respect he sent us backwards.

Just seen your name, I await a balanced unbiased reply.

Yes, he clearly did mate

Pre Moyes - 12th, 13th, 17th, 15th, 6th, 15th, 17th, 14th, 13th, 16th, 15th. That's not widely regarded as a sleeping giant by anyone but the most blinkered of fans.

Moyes- 7th, 17th, -4th, -11th, 6th, -5th, --5th, -8th, --7th, -7th, -6th. That's more widely regarded as better, and an improved team I would suggest.

He took over and we were 15th, he left us in 6th.

We were a joke, then Moyes made us a team to be feared. No one liked coming to Goodison, most games we hosted were commented on the media as x had a tough game away to Everton next, that 's not the case any more that's for sure.

This weird concept that we had a small time mentality under Moyes whilst becoming a much bigger and better team is amusing at most, but anyone who thinks we were bigger in the 90's than 00's are very much mistaken.
We had one good year in the whole decade, the rest was spent in the bottom half.
Telling people his transfer money was like bringing a knife to a gunfigth v City was just stating the obvious... He still had a great record against them. Kenwright had us looking small time by selling our players, Moyes just kept on making us better despite that.

Sorry but apart from the money side of things I don't agree with your post mate, our positions went up, our quality went up, and our reputation went up.

That's all very well but I was alive in the 80's and that was the era I was referencing.

2 league titles an all that.
