Moyes' substitution taboo

So on the 9 negative subs you listed, is Yesterdays 1?

No it isn't. I've just done it as a simple defender for attacking player (read as midfielder or striker). I know in some circumstances it can be considered not negative but it's just a simple way to highlight it.

Well...

Jelavic is a striker first and foremost.
Mirallas is a winger first and foremost.

Yesterday, Moyes replaced a striker (Jelavic) for a winger (Mirallas). The winger (Mirallas) went out to the wing and the defensive midfielder (Fellaini) went central/led the line...

I don't think that was a defensive change. The way things have been going Fellaini is probably more effective up front than Jelavic who has been garbage. Plus Mirallas is not a winger, he played striker for Olympiacos but Moyes loves playing players out of position.

I'm pretty sure Mirallas and Fellaini were both playing mainly central after Mirallas came on. Sure Mirallas might have drifted slightly wider on occasion but he wasn't playing as a winger in my eyes at all.

One thing else i noticed is as the game went on and they were attacking for the winner both him and Fellaini were both staying quite high up, i guess to try and play on the counter. Unfortunatly none of our "clearances" went anywhere near them or they went backwards when they did get it.

Mirallas isnt a Winger.

Try telling Moyes that then mate...

We can argue all night on where Mirallas plays, but for Everton - it's been on the wing.

All opinions death, for me - the change was as above. Mirallas on the wing, Felli central/up top.

Sure, Fellaini pushed up slightly but Mirallas was still in the same area, it was more a 4-4-2 if anything than keeping the 4-5-1 with Fellaini in Jelavics spot and Mirallas out wide as a proper winger.

Mind you, half the time Fellaini was in that position and Jelavic was playing left ahead of Pienaar and Baines.

Seems like there's some dispute as to where Mirallas played when he came on, he certainly didn't play right mid, no way in hell. If anything he played right sided striker.

The OS lists him as a Striker, when we bought him he was playing as a Striker, when Moyes scouted him he was playing as a Striker.

Hes a Striker.

Boss that mate.

I could find a few hundred sources that equally name the lad as a winger.

Here's one;

The answer is, he's played on the wing as much as up front.

Jelavic is an out and out striker.

Mirallas is a winger/forward. At Saint-Etienne he played right wing - I recall it being a reason he moved.

For Everton, Mirallas has played most minutes as a winger.

Bit like the pienaar isn't a winger debate?

Mirallas might have been a striker elsewhere. He's not for us.

That doesn't really answer my question though mate.

Why do we (I say we I mean David Moyes) play him as a winger then?
