10 years? Try since the Premiership began in 1992. Four are almost ever-present, which leaves three or four other clubs having broken into the club in the past seventeen years.

You're confusing the issue. 2005 was a massive achievement and those circumstances are never likely to be repeated.

Pots and Pans!

The teams to have broken the stranglehold in recent memory are Newcastle, Leeds, Blackburn, and Chelsea. The first three never stayed up there challenging because they were mismanaged on and/or off the pitch.

So quite a few then.

You use other teams as examples of the model not working out at all, as if that disproves the point that you need serious investment. I tell you what, City will get into the CL places before we do again.

City ! & Yes pretty much!

'It's nothing to do with investment'!!!

Someone better tell the Glaziers and Abramovich they're wasting their money.

Theyre Money?

Incredible.[/QUote

Why Thank You!

Ok, you're right. You can break into the CL with a couple of hundred quid, your Sainsbury's Card, a handful of ball bearings, and a bag of nails. How could I not have noticed that? Crack on Moyesie, you fcuking waster.

:hay:

You might want to stop and think how they did it before you embarass yourself any more.

Looking at the original title of this thread about Moyes concern over the Summer Kitty:-

It does not appear that there is anything to worry about !!!!!

Having had a quick trawl through all the usual Footy sites and a few others on the way - it would appear that we have already spanked or are about to spank somewhere in the region of about 60 million this summer.:D:D

And only a couple of days into the closed season - AWSOME !!!

I just love this time of year!

A little bird tells me it will be £15m plus anything taken from sales.

<the little bird exists solely in my head, though>

Don't be down, lad. Moyes took his eye of the ball for a few months. He won't make that mistake again.

A little bird tell me to expect:

Get in there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Mout is ours

And now you are trying to get that little bird into our heads. I have heard of seeing stars but little birds!! Keep 'em mate.

tweet, tweet, tweet.

So im confused we want to invest to break into the top four just like Newcastle, Leeds, Balckburn and Chelsea.
Well, since you insist:

Leeds and Blackburn got there by spending bundles (remember Blackburn signing players like Shearer for record fees or are you too young?) and then were mismanaged. Leeds overspent which got to them, Blackburn simply didn't capitalise and maybe they simply aren't big enough club to sustain the level of expenditure required. Newcastle also overspend, but like Spurs they have a high turnover as well, so they have been able to keep it going until recently. During Keegan's time they also hit a sweet patch for a while. Chelsea hold the world record in spending in football and that's the reason they are now part of the top four.

The funny thing is you bring up Chelsea and omit Arsenal which would be a much better example. Arsenal, however, had a good core of players even before Wenger took over but then they made a master stroke and signed him (what year was it when Arsenal pipped us for the UEFA cup spot on the last day of the season? - the clubs went different ways after that). Of course they also backed the manager and he managed to sell Overmars for 25 million. More than what we got for Rooney, and they didn't have to pay debts with the money, so Wenger spent that on players as well.

So either you want to have a go at the top spots or you don't. It's likely it will be Arsenal who slip up, but if Manchester City keep spending close to 100 million for a few years it's inevitable they will get there. It's just a matter of finding the right manager. And with all that money they can choose who they want, more or less.

Let's not forget that Arsenal had a "poor" season and we were nowhere near catching them. If you are happy with being fifth or sixth every year, good for you.
