Moyes aims for budget rebuild after Uefa exit

Is this the same average manager that got us 4th,5th,6th in the League? Briefly the ChampsLeague? Semi-final League cup? A long run in the Uefa? All for a net spend of less than 5m a year? How fickle some ppl are.

No cups, champions league for how long? [Poor language removed] football, bias towards some players (neville, hibbert) and its taken him 6 months to commit to the club. mmmm

Im hnappy he's signing a contract, just not at teh fact it took him so long to cimiut to the club, and i dont think he is worht the £15-£17 million contract

He took a club that was fighting relagation most seasons and turned them into a club that expects Europe. EPIC failure. Phil Neville is a GOD.b)

"Settling".

That's what we have now - a man shorn of ambition and letting us know exactly why we wont be going anywhere fast. I'd prefer it if he retained his credibilty by walking, to be honest.

Fair enough, Dave. But as far as I see it, we've not got a pot to piss in. There is no new investor on his way. So Moyes can either feck off in a strop or get on with managing what on paper is decent team. In my view, we're still capable of finishing in a top 7 place assuming the manager and players get their act together from now on.

So everyone moaning about that don't want another Tim Cahill then? Don't want another Mikel Arteta? Or any of the great players at cheap prices?

Yeah we dreamed of getting top players that cost big money but it didn't happen and it WONT happen (unless we do get some big money takeover but thats not exactly looking likely right now). One of Moyes strong point he has proven himself with since he has been here is turning previously underated players in to top quality players and making a team so strong its total is way way more than the sum of its parts.

If this means that everybody asscioataed with EFC have to face reality that we are not going to break the top 4 and keep pushing on with what we have then good. Seems like all this daydreaming has hurt us when the reality has kicked in.

We have a highly rated international midfielder waiting to come good. Moyes needs to do again what he has done so well for this club, make us a team that can surprise everyone, make us the team that finishes above the othes by having great team spirit and belief in ourselves.

Keep looking for those championship and foreign gems. We reached for the stars but we fell short. Time to have a more realistic aim and that is to do what we have done before, finish 5th and give ourselves a great chance of going even further.

But we must learn from the mistakes that cost us the chance of going further and not repeat them.

Yes its highly dissapointing we haven't moved on since last year. But the more we sit around and sulk about it the harder it will be to get back to where we were.

Until we have investment Moyes and the team have to work with what they have, and that worked very well for us previously.

About time to be honest. Do your job and use whatever resources (no matter how small) available to improve the side.

If the money isnt available or you simply can not attract the likes of Moutinho then look elsewere and bring in players who will at least replace the ones who have left such as Carsley...

Thats my view.

He hasnt ruled out buying big money players, and to be fair we'd only be able to buy the one £15million per season (at the moment).

So hoepfully when he says lower priced players I hope he's sorting out his scouting network abroad, trying to nick a cheeky Farbregas-esque players (or players similar) for cheap as well as bringing some english talent. Castillo looks good for a loan, Saha was looks like a good one and you've gotta look elsewhere in the league for similar scouting -- Zaki, Palacios, Valencia for Wigan were nobody's and would've been picked up on the cheap, they look great players to boost a squad.

So not all doom and gloom. Wait till the Indian buys us out though hahahaha

Well one thing we do know is that Davey or Dithering Dave to his detractors wont sign a player unless he feels it will improve the squad, infact i cant think of one player he signed form the championship who didnt.

There actually are some Gems there that could come in for a year or two and prove top notch:

Kightly
Jarvis
Ebanks Blake
Ledley
Barnes
Moses
Garvin
Beevers
Scannel

I wouldnt be disapointed with anyof the abpve in an Everton Shirt to be honest.

Another thing why do people always talk in extreams, i think the fact that he mentions he will be looking to the lower leauges to find potential gems doestnt mean that he wont be prepared to pay big money for a quality player available, or for that matter find a gem abroad. Hes mearly looking at an option. Top man Davey.

It's a disgrace. I mean clubs like Arsenal havn't been able to do anything by bringing in unknowns. I want us to be signing big name players every summer. It's the Newcastle way god dammit!! Ashey out.

I am really cringeing when I read this forum at the moment- some peoples comments make me cower behind the screen. That statement doesnt say anything- it has a couple of quotes that could be misconstrued as anything.

Brucey you can add Spurs to that as well- how much have they spent??!

These players get you to a certain level then that's it to be honest. Moyes said that himself a few months ago, he needs to look at better quality. It doesn't have to be big name 20 million players but they have to cost something.

We've seen how someone like Yakubu can push us on, 11 million for a player who probably is world class. And before people give me stick for calling him world class look and his goalscoring record and jog on.

I don't mind him mixing it up, one big signing and the rest 2-6 million pound players like the Cahill, Arteta, Lescott and Jags of this world. That's the way to go for me.

And I don't like the fact that he just looks at the Championship, bar two or three players there's nothing there. He needs to expand his net work and look abroad.

The rebuilding comment annoyed me, is he telling us we haven't got a good enough squad to compete?

Well we should have. We have enough quality to beat any team in the premierleague on our day.

Unfortunatly we do have our fair share of players who aren't good enough consistently enough. Its all about replacing those players with even better players, not putting up with them.

That should be the aim surely, even if its not possible.

I was a bit unsure about that, TB. I sort of think he had his words mixed up a bit. Presumably he meant to say something along the lines of continuing to build on what we have. We certainly need to that. And I'm sure if the team pushes on, there will be room for more £10 or £12m players. We just won't, for the moment, be buying five or 6 of these in one go.

I'd say right back needs to be looked at (and no Davey, that's not because I want you to put Pip in midfield ). Also someone that can play the wing effectively. Lastly, we need really good competition for goalkeeper. If we could sort those out in January, with perhaps one of them being a loan deal (Obinna or whatever his name is perhaps) then that is improvement.

They might be unknown to you, but Wenger brings in very good players from France and Africa and rewards them VERY well:

Arsenal director Danny Fiszman - "Our wage bill is very similar to Manchester United and substantially above Liverpool's – it's substantially below Chelsea's but that's expected. We pay good salaries"

The devil, as always, is in the detail.

Rebuilding doesn't mean changing the whole squad. Every player has the potential to be replaced by a better version but of course chances of finding that player and signing him are very slim for our best players.

But certain players could and should be replaced with superior versions reasonably easily and cheaply.

I think we have to stop kidding ourselves. We are not going to challenge for any trophy anytime soon. We are not competitive in that respect. We've been fed a diet over the past few seasons of: "build slowly - retaining your quality players and adding a couple more each season - and we can edge our way to a CL qualifying place regularly and pick up a trophy".

The truth of that matter - and leaving out the fact that even THAT policy above was dropped like a hot potato this summer by this clueless board of directors - is that you dont get anywhere in this league by making incremental gains. It's such a shifting environment in terms of club ownership that you need a QUANTUM LEAP to get anywhere the 4 SKY bastards.

Today's statement by Moyes is simply the recognition of that fact.

We have a choice to make, all of us: support the team and accept our fate or declare that football is [Poor language removed] and take up gardening.
