Paul Ryan, Hillary Clinton, Chris Farley, and Iggy Pop are all good examples

I only know the two famous names, and only one's speaking voice. Sounds quite neutral, isn't it? Tho' I have zero clue about regional differences in USA accents.

Differences tend to be fairly small across most of the country since those areas were settled so fast. In the Northeast accents vary a lot more, and famously the South has its own dialect.

Yeah, Great Lakes is pretty neutral. It's the standard accent for broadcast journalists in the US since it's pretty universally easy to understand.

There are some vowel pronunciation and vocabulary differences (like it's a shopping cart, not a buggy @mezzrow and @SerenityNigh ;) ) but that's about it

It's usually a few words that stick out and delineate the dialects. There's good dialect research and maps available. I'll link one later if I'm arsed.

Then of course there's Cajun as well.

Slightly biased being married to a French lass but definitely French. That said, there are some God awful French accents. It can be very unattractive in the north east, near Belgium.

I'd watch a video of the LSU Golden Girls reading each other Thibodeau and Boudreau jokes while cooking me up some good boudin.

Like that? (looks for more cliches behind a box full of Tony Chachere's seasoned salt - finds one) Is that an accordion I hear?

I couldn't find the first, but I think this is the second one you mention.

The Yanks take it for me. Not places like Bama or Mississippi but like Cali. There were some great ones in Orlando when I was there a few months ago.

Bird from Boston by me at the Patriots game. Oh my.

Posh southern

Posh north east

South Wales sounds filth

Latino

Kirkby

Northern Irish

Yesss, 'Mon the Kirkby birds.

Cali accent is absolutely horrible. I'm not even going to apologise to anyone here from Cali (I recall there being at least 2? Not sure).

Southern USA accent is great though. As are the French and Irish.

Clearly though, the Slavic accent always wins, so why is this debate even open?
