when zey speak english it just sounds cheesy, at least to my ears...same for ze men too.

German people should just be banned from speaking English.

Germans speaking English is weird. The tonal flow is completely off. The fact that American accents in German are widely considered to be attractive leads me to believe we're right and they're wrong ;).

To many young Germans, the US-of-A represents utter cool. As the British know, Germans aren't known for their coolness.

Going further back, German-English dictionaries during Marshall-Plan times the USA provided the books free of charge whereas UK also provided German schools/unis with books but charged for them.

The German schools that had UK books were told to pronounce the "A" in that plummy Queen's Oxford accent where there's an umlaut on it. Like "haeve" instead of "have". The schools with US dictionaries also had the phonetics with the "ae" as that's how Ammies speak.

You'll thus rarely meet a German who's able to properly speak English.

For some reason this reminds me of this time where myself and a bunch of other internationals sat in on a Realschule English class while I was in Lübeck. We took turns talking about our local cultures and that. I think the point was to get 13 year olds excited about learning English since so many people can speak it.

Anyway, beforehand we were outside hanging with the teacher, and he was gushing to this English guy about how much he loves the British accent and thinks the Queen's English is proper English.

So naturally, I deliver in the best Great Lakes accent I can summon:

"Yeah, well, at least we actually know how to spell."
