2017/18 Morgan Schneiderlin

Are people honestly saying he didn't touch him? He caught him with his trailing leg, I'm pretty sure on that. And a tackle from behind and sliding in from distance is always at risk of a card and a foul even if you take the ball. I wasn't surprised at all when the card came out, and I think it's harsh not to acknowledge how the ref may have seen it even if you think ultimately it wasn't a foul. Ref has to call it in an instant. First reaction from me to him sliding in was no, no, no... Bad decision by Schneids for me.

He caught him with his trailing leg, so what? The top of his foot caught the side of Aguero's foot as they were both on the ground and Schneiderlin had his leg tucked in. He can't just leave his trailing leg 20 yards away. And it quite clearly wasn't a tackle from behind, no idea why you'd say that. He's in front of Aguero who spins to make it maybe a tackle from the side.

It was never a yellow card in a million years. If a defender nudges someone in the box who goes down easily you could maybe say it was a stupid decision. But we're now excusing refereees and blaming players who get sent off for perfectly good challenges? Madness.

madness
they call it madness

Did a very good job of nullifying Silva last night. I agree he's not been spectacular so far this season but he's done what he's needed to very well. Shame he'll miss Chelsea (was never a second yellow, but that's been well covered already...) but he should get the full 90 against Split. If he gets booked on Thursday does he miss the next European game since he was booked in the 1st leg?

I was replying to what seemed like a few people saying he didn't touch him. So caught him with his trailing leg is relevant to that. I remember it being a tackle that seemed a bit from behind, but I'm in work and can't view it again now but after watching several replays last night my opinion was foul and that he shouldn't have gone to ground there.

I don't really know why people are freaking out here.

Silva ended up out wider than he'd like a few times I think as he wasn't getting much joy in the areas he would like to operate. Job well done.

Regardless of whether or not that second card was justified, the real damage was done with that stupid lunge in the early period of the game which brought him the first yellow.

Combative, aggressive DMs rarely see out the whole game when cautioned so early on in a game

Yeah, the first one was unnecessary too, but I'm not sure it's something he generally has form for.

It was a stupid challenge because it was obvious the referee was going to even things up.

We have got to be smarter/cuter with stuff like this.

It was a perfectly fine tackle for me but if you play the percentages you have:

A referee who has incorrectly sent off a player from the other side.
5 minutes to go
Tackle on an proper snide player who was being snide all game
Already booked
Away from home against a "glamour club"
Formerly played for the other clubs rivals so the crowd will be putting added pressure on the referee
Leaves his feet
Tackle comes in from the side/back.

It was obvious someone would be sent off for us, people were saying it from the moment Walker was sent up that the ref would even things up.

If Schniederlin stays on his feet we do not have this problem.

Nobody is excusing referees and blaming players. The problem is that's just how football is these days. We must play smarter. We are now missing an important player for a very tough game and for what?

I think that is a bit of paranoia there, Papa.

If the ref was looking for an excuse to even things up he had the perfect opportunity when Calvert Lewin was involved in an incident, when we were still in front, which could just as easily have been punished with a second yellow as not punished.

And both the Citeh players and the crowd were in his face, demanding the yellow be shown.

That would have been the easy option for him.

But Schneiderlin was indeed 'stupid" for all the reasons you mentioned.

Morgs isn't a dirty player, but it's nights like these you remember he is a bit of a hot head. He has to learn to keep his cool in moments like last night. Davies showed the utmost maturity by avoiding dangerous challenges. There were several times he could have gone in and potentially started a counter, but he opted to simply put pressure instead. He sacrificed personal glory to stay on the field.

I dunno about it being paranoia. Most refs seemingly want to do it. I don't mean it just happens against us.

It was a bad decision but so was Walkers. Both players do have some accountability as you have to know you're on a yellow, and you just cannot give the ref any excuse to even think about it. Aguero is a little girl, but regardless you can't go sliding 10 yards for a tackle on a yellow, even if you win the ball. The risk/reward ratio just isn't there. For a player of his quality and experience, he needs to understand that.
