Thought he did Ok last night. Was the link player, the outlet for defence. Nothing brilliant just tidy. Seen plenty of forward passes when players made themselves available. If they are not available he can't do the forward pass unless we want him to hoof it. Wasn't needed last night and Alladyce eventually seen that we needed to play higher up the pitch. Smart tactical move but not Morgans fault....he did his job without fuss or attempted glory balls. Thinking the hatred for him is blinding people.

Maybe the last 3 managers have picked him because he is the only midfielder we have who has the positional discipline and awareness to play the holding role? I.e. the off the ball stuff that managers notice but maybe the crowd doesn’t so much.

Unless we sign someone better in that role (N’Zonzi?) or Gueye transforms himself into that sort of player, I think he will be in and around the team for most games. Even though he has been below par for most of the season.

There is nothing wrong in saying it...if you think that. Don't think he was poor just OK. Was available for the defence at all times, was looking to pass forward. Like I said we didn't really need him last night or the manager should have tried to push him up the pitch a bit more.

I think that’s probably true in a lot of other cases. That’s what made Gareth Barry so underrated.

I know you're close to the club mate, what's he like around the place? Is he as well thought of as I seem to think he is?

The system was the issue though and at home against Swansea I don't think we needed him and Gana. One or the other from the start. And since Gana is better I'd go with him in that sweeping role, Davies in the box-to-box and Rooney as the playmaker.

Not me, I can see he's not playing at all well. He may be playing a little bit better, but it's only a small improvement on a very low base line...and to think Koeman put the 'heavy' on the board to sign him.

Schneiderin, Williams and Martina are the main culprit of timid footballer that is plaging the team.

Afraid to pass forward, afraid of dribbling, worst of them is Schneiderlin, simply no guts to even carry the ball and run a couple of yards forward and attempt through ball. Always looking to relieve the responsibility and pass the ball to someone else to make a decision on their behalf.

I wouldn’t know to be honest, I’m not really in with all that any more as my #source around the senior squad got the boot around the same time as Martinez, although the two sackings were supposedly unrelated.

Unfortunately, I think fans would like players to self-police the dressing room more than they actually do. Chelsea, as mentioned on Sky before, had Terry, Drogba, Lampard etc. who were an extension of the coaching staff. Most teams, however, don’t. Schneiderlin and Mirallas acting the goat at training probably got treated like the naughty kid at school. The players might think they’re idiots, but wouldn’t say anything for fear of looking teacher’s pet/square. From my experience, the dynamic of a dressing room is not that much different to your average work office or Sunday league team. They’re (mostly) dedicated professionals, but at the same time they don’t want the hassle of upsetting their teammates over something they could easily stay out of. If he’s friendly with them on the bus to a game, and they have a laugh at the training ground, they probably don’t care if he’s got issues with the coaching staff.

Of course this is all speculation. For all I know his teammates could be punching his head in behind the bike sheds, but yano.

I was surprised he came out in the second half. It was a lazy half hearted performance. He gave away a stupid and dangerous freekick just before the goal and then was so slow off the mark getting to (not getting to) a winnable ball in the build up to the goal.
To be fair he did try more forward balls in the second half and no doubt that was an instruction but a premier league player should not need telling to do such things.
He would have loved playing for Liverpool or Forest in the days of the goalie being allowed to pick it up!
