Transfer Rumour Morgan Gibbs-White

With the news that we're supposedly close to Collins I would expect MGW is leaving.

It's been widely reported we have to sell to buy, our owners have said as much. So can't see where we're finding £20m+ from and whilst we have a good squad, MGW is probably the only one who we get a fair valuation for.

Neves not getting the bids we expected, Kilman & Neto had injuries, Jimenez lost form, Ait-Nouri probably needs another year.

Whilst we're making noises about keeping him, I presume it's just to drive up the price. Realistically we can't keep a player who doesn't want to be here who will enter final year of his contract in 12 months, it's the last chance to get a proper fee.
Nice if you to pop in mate,

Do you rate him?

I always thought the clubs owners were loaded?

They were in a relegation dogfight when they finished 13th mate. I think you're a bit mistaken mate.

Either way, it doesnt matter where you are part way through the season. It matters how you do after 38 games, and they appear to be going the wrong way.
WTF are you talking about? They've never remotely been close to relegation since they came up.

Yes all very fair.

The question for us, is going to be whether we will go to a level of fee that you would find acceptable, and whether the player would be prepared to wait it out.

Can I ask, why have you become sell to buy? I thought your owners wanted to spend big?

you watch a lot of him? not even sarcasm, just a question. As my missus dad is season ticket holder at united and he believes he would be a great signing.
Seen him play a few cameos. Nothing to shout about tbh. With th e quoted price, I'm sure there's better.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. So do you think he'd fancy a move to us based on this? Or is he more concerned about the money he makes?
It's probably a combination.

The fall-out with the girlfriend and a section of the support wasn't good but obviously don't know the impact. Whether it means a lot or not, all the 'Wolves player' and that [Poor language removed] is no longer in his social media bios. Certainly get the impression he's not bothered and the contracts on the table which he hasn't signed! He also turned down the chance to come back in January.

I think he may feel a fresh start from Wolves unfortunately but that's just my opinion but tbf I wouldn't say he'd definitely pick you over Palace or Forest. Whilst you're the bigger club of the three, you could argue Palace are the best and he has a connection with Steve Cooper at Forest.

Then, importantly, the money. If I'm his agent and Wolves value MGW at £30m then you're going in and asking for a contract that reflects that. Realistically, £30m players are on a fair whack and our top earners are believed to be around the £100,000 a week mark.

I can't imagine we offer anywhere near that, whereas as a big signing for you I presume you would pay big.

13th to 10th isn't going backwards. Clearly I'm arguing with a moron.
Now then, what do you make of us just avoiding relegation? Which team seems the better bet if you want to compete for your place and finish high in the league? Us or Wolves? There's only two reasons he'd move to us in these circumstances; i) Because he would play more often ii) Money.

Theres no need to start calling people a moron mate, just because I'm taking the time to discuss/correct you.

13th and 10th are going backwards relative to 7th isnt it? You can call me a moron all you like, but it doesnt change that fact I'm afraid.

And we also went backwards quite sharply last season. Fortunately we have changed the manager and DOF who oversaw that, and have a different approach now.

I agree with your reasoning, but would add, he may want to play with one of the greatest England and PL midfielders of all time. He may also want to come and play for a far bigger club than Wolves. So theres plenty of reasons. It seems hes interested.

Theres no chance we pay him near that mate, and I doubt Forest or Palace would either.

Gutted about this as a Wolves fan.

I know the valuation seems a lot but it's pretty fair in the modern game. Maddison went for £20m+ a few years ago and MGW has the same stats as him and was the same age. Benrahma cost £25-30m as well, so that's the going rate for top Championship players, which MGW is proven to be.

However, unlike Norwich and Brentford in those instances, we're a Premier League club so that should add a bit more to his value. So, I think £30m is a fair price even if I understand why you would be sceptical.

If he won't sign a new deal we'd have to sell but I'd still be disappointed. We are in a position where we have to sell to buy generally, so letting him go into his final year of his deal makes no sense from our perspective.

In terms of his ability, he's class. He's got so much talent, finds space well, picks a pass and has added goals to his game.

He was unhappy with us that we recalled him from a loan spell with Swansea two seasons ago in January and didn't play him on his return, which was totally valid. Nuno didn't really fancy him for some reason and he was recalled in a bit of a panic with little thinking about his development

Under Lage we hoped he would be key but whilst he was very good in pre-season he was loaned out and that was believed to have annoyed him as well.

There were also issues between him and the fans. He was pictured at a party when lockdown was on with all these divs you get from Love Island or whatever and it didn't go down well, especially at that time. Certainly came across as flash and many of our fans would stupidly lay into his girlfriend on social media. Was all a bit nasty and may have contributed to him not wanting to be here.

People weren't too bothered that he went to Sheffield United and if we do sell him for £25-30m I guarantee you will read many Wolves fans say we've robbed you, you've overpaid etc. but I really don't believe that's the case.

I watch more Championship football than most, so that will influence their opinion. MGW hasn't actually done much for Wolves in his career to date but his quality with Sheffield United was clear to see.

He also played in the 3-4-3/3-5-2 for the Blades, so it left us a bit annoyed that we didn't do more to get him in our team.

The penny seems to have really dropped with him the last 12 months. He can still be a bit petulant at times when I've seen him but he was levels above the Championship and I would back him to go on to play for England the way he has improved.

Basically, this loan was sink or swim and he delivered.

Perhaps the only negative I could see is that there will be a lot of pressure on MGW if he moves to you if he's the big signing and whilst he's not a direct Richarlison replacement, there will be an expectancy for him to do well and maybe he wouldn't get eased in as he might at a Palace, Forest etc.
For me the price for Bowen is the price we should be looking to pay. That was 18+7. Once you get up to 30ish it becomes a bit too much. It seems silly to haggle over small numbers in a deal this size but we have so little leeway that we have to.

I like him a lot though and don't think his time at Wolves really revealed anything because he just wasn't playing with any regularity. Just going off that loan last year he looks like the type we should be chasing. I hope to see this get done.

Seen two ask about the owners.

Yeah, they were, talked a good game for a few years, then it slowly started becoming we need to be 'self-sustainable'.

Many believe it's from the Chinese government, things stopped as soon as other Chinese owners were pulling out of clubs or reducing the money.

There's a lot of anger towards them at the minute as the prices are going up a lot each year but no net spend.

That makes sense.

I remember thinking it would go that way.
