What do we reckon to a 60 game season? It seems to be getting pelters in the US - I get the history and the difference, but 60 games seems to be more than sufficient for any other sport to sort out the best teams.
Also makes me chuckle when people say 60 games makes a mockery of the season because it becomes a game of chance ... then the playoffs are a best of 5/7.

Any of our US friends give us insight into what the reaction is over there. From what I can make out, there's a lot of negative reaction from the left ("we shouldn't play while Covid is around") and the right (" we shouldn't play while players take a knee") and anyone else ("a 60 game season isn't a season").
Is that fair?

The true baseball fans are excited I think, maybe a little apprehensive about whether or not this should happen (depending on where they get their news I suppose) but happy it is back regardless. Baseball in general though is getting more worn out to people every year and there are a lot of reasons for that none of which were helped the last few months.
I’d say the biggest criticism has been the labor dispute between the players and owners and a number of owners shafting the minor leaguers.Baseball could have restarted around the 4th of July if it had not been for that. I don’t think the BLM stuff is really that big of a deal in baseball—-people will look more closely to the NFL and NBA for the political messaging.
I kind of like the idea of a shorter season tbh.
My Mets can usually string together a decent 60 game run.
