Lackey, Cubs: $32/34 Million over 2 years.

This is probably the best bang for the buck for the Cubs. It costs a draft pick, but not one of our prospects. It’s also only a small financial and yearly commitment compared to Price, and presumably whatever Cueto and Greinke get. Theo knows him well, Lester knows him well, but he's Thirty freaking seven.

We'll see. It could work. Knowing that they aren't going to pay the $ for Price this year doesn't make me want him less. This says that's off. Plus, this takes Lackey away from them.

Not a bad deal, methinks. So many of the massive deals to 30+ year old pitchers have turned sour. May make sense for the early years of the contract but get hammered on the back end

Not just pitchers. I have two words.

Alfonso.

Soriano.

(weeps)
Tell me about it. The Mets MO for years was overpaying for past performance. If any good came from Wilpon losing his shirt in the Madoff affair, it's that they have to develop players and be smart with long-term contracts. Still have nightmares from the '93 Mets.

Yep. Agents and hookers both love'em when they're rich and stupid.

Jason Heyward coming to the Northside, trading in the RS (Cardinals) kit for Cubbie Blue like Lackey. Theo nails him down for 8 yrs @ $185m according to current reports. Heyward is 26 years old, like Rizzo, and those two will be among the oldest players in the 2016 Cubs starting lineup.

That lineup is starting to look like... (stifles. It's December, fahcrissakes)
