Obviously gutted we have lost ANOTHER 2 goal lead. But from what I could tell:
Mirallas lost us the game, so at least there is now no debate over whether we should keep him
We had a right good go with 10 men, rather than sitting back and waiting to lose.
A draw would have been no us to us, and at least it puts West Ham further above the RS.
All this is masking the fact that when we missed a pen at 2-0 I thought we might lose the game. I can't think of any other Everton team that I was sure could capitulate as much as this one, which does make you think something is mentally wrong. That said, it's probably because of the Stoke and Leicester and Bournemouth and Chelsea games. We badly need some leadership on the pitch (and maybe off it). I'm gutted because Martinez is skating on thin ice now, although I think if we'd had eleven men we would have won comfortably which is not his fault.
To be honest, my mixed feelings were before this game - I wanted him to stay, learn from his mistakes, do well and boss next season. That's not to say I had Davek levels of support for Martinez, I was, if you were to put a percentage on it, 55/45 for him to stay, as there were loads of negatives.
In the last few games that shifted to a to a bit more favourable percentages, if you will, but today he's just proven he doesn't deserve them. Another game thrown away, this time completely, another poor defensive showing, and I can't really blame the players. It's clear our defensive style is " utter chaos", at best, especially at set pieces and crosses from deep.
And I fully disagree with the sentiment of "we had a good go with 10 men" - yeah, that'd be nice, fantastic... if West Ham were the ones being several goals up and we were chasing. We had nothing to do but sit back, and it's not like we were opening them up like it's no one's business - our build up was gash when Niasse came on (nothing on the lad, he's a striker after all, not a midfielder) and we looked even more unable to string a few passes, instead of looking like team that's going to take the commanding lead and go home with it (figuratively, as it was a home game after all). This isn't even the first instance this is happening - Stoke was the exact same story; putting on MORE strikers instead of reassuring the chaotic midfield and with it, the win.
And I'm also the least arsed person about West Ham or the RS at this point. Couldn't care less where either of those wankstain clubs finish. I want Everton to win, and seeing as we were 2:0 up AGAIN, I even expected it to happen.
