Current Affairs Missing woman in Lancashire

Bit harsh to mention this, I think. Unless they’re not happy with the public outrage with people believing they haven’t done their job properly.

A strange thing to come out with. Are the police trying to take pressure off themselves?

Yeah. Struggle to see how it helps an investigation.
They’re getting absolute pelters from the media , diving experts , retired plod , everyone including family saying how happy she was , how they should have done this and that . People handing in gloves they’ve found , trying to search places themselves , identifying the fella as a murderer ,internet groups trying to solve the mystery. We’ve had theories abounding ranging from disinformation operations while parallel investigations take place to alien abductions to everything else .

I suspect they’ve just laid certain cards on the table , including that she was treated as vulnerable from minute one . Basically they’ve taken it seriously but that’s not enough for the media they’ve then demanded more and more information, which they’ve not got and loads of people (I don’t mean on here ) are clutching their pearls because they’ve been told why .

I don’t have a great deal of trust for the police generally but I suspect it’ll turn out this is very probably a Fairly up and down matter involving a vulnerable woman with her own mental health issues that’s taken a relatively common tragic turn . However because of a set of circumstances and that fact she was a photogenic middle class white woman its turn into a daily episode of murder she wrote updates to satisfy a ravenous public .

A raging alcoholic by all accounts suffering with the affects of the menopause. I guess the police were just counting on finding her body very quickly and so didn't think they'd ever have to air her personal issues in public.

Of course they'll have known this information very early on, what with it being in their systems that a welfare check was carried out recently.

I'm convinced that if she has wandered off or been taken the evidence would have presented itself by now. Where there weren't CCTV cameras there will have been plenty of dashcam footage, for example.

The relatively short gap of time doesn't really leave anywhere for her to have gone where she wouldn't have been spotted in person or on a camera.

The only thing that's still puzzling me is her having not been found despite the continuous searches of the water right up to the sea, where even the experts say it was virtually impossible for her to have been dragged out.

Probably a one in a million and she actually has been swept out to sea having wanted to put an end to her mental issues.

Would love her to be found safe and well though!

It doesn’t. What it does do is alleviate some of the circus that is following case because every disclosure is met with more questions from press et al.

This level of disclosure is the exception, but the social media fuelled analysis from Netflix Columbos is clearly having an impact on the investigation.

Police have just come out saying she was struggling with alcohol and they had been out to the house on 10th January with concerns of her welfare. All very bizarre this case.

I think Lancashire Police have made a right arse of this and are now covering their backs….

I think that the Police jumped to this conclusion a bit too quickly tbh, thinking that she just topped herself in the river. I have a bit more faith in the guy who is getting abuse all over the place because he said she’s not in the river…..

Gone in the river or she knows a very secluded place in the area (she walks there daily) and has ended her life.
The personal matters the police would have known at an early age. However with the family and friends saying she is normally happy and has no issues clearly goes against this. Therefore the police probably feel they have no option but to state this, given the interest and opinions by un qualified people.

people categorised as high risk is quite common. Also when someone is put as high risk it grants the police more intrusive powers than normal.

The lead on the dive team on LBC earlier stated they were not informed of this in the two days of searching the river. This sort of detail has huge impact on searching for missing persons, they are normally informed of this detail.

There's no evidence she ever went in the river. Its 2ft deep.
Twice as deep in the centre, not going to end up there just falling in, you might if taking a running jump lets say in a distressed state. And if she was in a distressed state she may not have entered the water where the dog and items were found and search was conducted, could have walked some distance. Shocking Police have withheld this from search team.

Working in mental health and in past life coast guard, its truly astounding this detail has been withheld, even from agencies working on this case right now. The profile of the missing person is so important from the outset.

From their own search team or a company whose leader publicly spoke to the press beforehand, provided his own hypothesis and continues to liaise with them?

Sorry, but I'm not surprised in the slightest if the investigating officers are concerned about his integrity and may have withheld certain key information.

Their assistance was likely taken due to the public pressure after his more than public 'come and use us'. Their own search team will have likely known.

He was just helping them search the river, because despite them turning down his public offers they clearly felt the pressure he’d put them under from family and media was too much. He didn’t need to know anything about her, because he was literally just there to use his sonar equipment, although you’d obviously have been forgiven for thinking he was the lead detective based on his self promotion.
