if people think think there should be silence for thatcher they did not live though what she did to working class people who are still suffering from what she did it. goes beyond football. she was a bad person being dead dosnt n make her good

I've found this whole thing very fascinating. In the US, when a former president dies there would without a doubt be a moment of silence at the game, and people would respect it regardless of politics.

Would people really make noise if they tried to do this at Goodison?

Not inviting any rants, but she was a very divisive PM over hear mate. Like serious hate from some, adoration from others. More than any politician ever, IMO. Not saying that is right or wrong, its just is how it is here.

Placing fans in a position where they had to hold their tongue or risk national ridicule in the press would be massively disrespectful by the club, and for all their faults I really don't see it happening at Goodison. It's not the place of any club to take a view on a divisive political leader - least of all a club in a city that her cabinet was considering abandoning to "managed decline".

A minute's silence isn't a neutral act of respect.

this is a link to national charts so inside 48 hours check what is at no 10 already, it may be the first no1 that wont be played by any charts radio station

no 10, that's appropriate. how did they manage that. some people almost in tears talking about how much they hated what she stood for and what she did. politicians should respect that. no state funeral, no silences. if people feel close to her then mourn in private dignity

As I said last night. minutes silence for any politician is always going to provoke a reaction, especially with one who provoked extreme reactions. IMO, unless a club wants to do one for a local MP such as Blackburn & Jack Straw for example, best to swerve it totally. Would serve no purpose what so ever.

Sadly, without doubt. Observing a minutes' silence for ex footballers, even ones who never played for us, or fans of our rivals who lost their lives at Hillsbrough are rightly impeccably observed, doing the same for a senile old lady who lead a political party you personally didn't vote for, no chance. It's ironic people say her legacy is one of greed and selfishness given the attitudes of many towards her. Absolutely hateful, nasty pieces of work the lot of them, I'm ashamed they call themselves human beings, let a lone Evertonians as many of them are

"If love is something you cherish, it is hard to glean much joy from death, even in one's enemies."

And BANG - you tell us everything we need to know about you. Cheers! :) x

Im giving him the benefit of the doubt for now. I think he is referring to people who might support her, and are also Evertonians, not Blues who might not *ahem* respect a silence.Like I said, I think........
