People using the extension '-phobe' to describe someone who dislikes or hates something, eg homophobe, technophobe, islamophobe etc. If you are phobic about something, you have an (often) irrational, yet intense fear, of it. Someone claustrophobic doesn't just consciously hate confined spaces, they are terrified of them. When someone is considered to have a grudge against gays, they are immediately labelled 'homophobic'. If they truly were homophobic, they would be afraid of gay people, and wouldn't be able to help it. They wouldn't beat them up or abuse them, they'd stay away. Similarly, anyone who doesn't want the latest smartphone or Apple gadget is a 'technophobe'. No - not unless they're hiding in the next room scared of the new telly, they're not. This seems to have appeared out of nowhere, and suddenly 'phobe' is being stuck on the end of anything someone doesn't like. Stop it. Stop it now. And no, I'm NOT 'phobophobic'...
