Got some bad news for you. When I take a lift I just stand there rather than walk on the spot.It annoys me that people use escalators as an excuse not to continue walking, as they would on stairs.
I appreciate that some users have mobility issues and may like to take a break, but it is frustrating when people stop on an escalator which is otherwise empty when they could be walking.
I should also note that I prefer taking the stairs.
You would not be expected to walk in a lift. As for an escalator, that is just a moving staircase. On an ordinary staircase, you would not stop, so there is no reason to stop on an escalator and slow others down.Got some bad news for you. That's because if you stopped on an ordinary staircase you wouldn't get anywhere. You would not be expected to walk in a lift. As for an escalator, that is just a moving staircase. On an ordinary staircase, you would not stop, so there is no reason to stop on an escalator and slow others down.
Yes, but the point is that a person stopping on escalators (as they may do on a public staircase) is still blocking the escalator for others who may be in a hurry. A lift is a confined space, therefore it makes no sense to walk around in a lift, except for entering or exiting the lift. That's because if you stopped on an ordinary staircase you wouldn't get anywhere.
Not everyone is so spritely and nimble to be able to face stairs. And with lifts usually tucked away in corners of shops and often there being a queue, some of the aged and infirm choose to let the escalator do the work.Yes, but the point is that a person stopping on escalators (as they may do on a public staircase) is still blocking the escalator for others who may be in a hurry. My initial point was partially raised because I often have to walk up an escalator and it puts me behind time when I am waiting for the person in front to continue walking. On occasion, it has caused me to miss a bus or train when travelling on a tight schedule.
Are you not able to pass people on an escalator? They are usually wide enough for two.Yes, but the point is that a person stopping on escalators (as they may do on a public staircase) is still blocking the escalator for others who may be in a hurry. How do you feel about travelators at airports?
Generally I view it as disrespectful to pass people on escalators, unless at a railway station. My original post was in relation to escalators in shopping centres and other spaces. Are you not able to pass people on an escalator? They are usually wide enough for two.

I have limited experience with travelators, so can't really comment on that.
