minor things that make you fume

He's the only one atm poon!
The early rare version of the 3 was an overheater extraordinaire to the point where de-lidding (quiet at the back!) became a thing and improved cooling via bigger fans and re-greasing and deep cleaning implemented. Sadly sony listen to much to their accountants, the main heatsink in the 3 is an aluminium disc. Swapping out for a copper disc (much improved thermal conductivity... Aluminum thermal conductivity ~ 237 W/mK (watts per meter kelvin) compared to copper ~ 401 W/mK. So for the sake of about 20 cents difference a defective solution was forced into the units.
I understand, selling millions of them, means multiplying that 20 cents cost, but quality and reputation means better user experience and happy customers are loyal customers are return customers.
*20 cents to you and me, these are international so bulk buying for production is brought down.
psx could/can be chipped, but there's no point as the ps2 has a fantastic homebrew scene and plays psx games as well as. (total library about 8k). I believe similar modding for 3, but haven't checked for the 4.
Rumour is early 6 will be backwards compatible with 4 & 5 but that might not be a run that lasts forever, so early 6 units could end up being incredibly rare and even more valuable.
apparently there are no exploits to be used on any xbox machines, i'd be amazed if this is true, but a lot of the microsoft successes have been ported anyway so anyone keen enough to want a run on their titles can find them via sony or pc anyway in the main.

[additional - nintendo wii, this thing is a gamecube on steroids, powered by ati, released around 2006. They made the choice to utilise the common graphic delivery of the day, so it naturally output to digital (hdmi) then bolted on a means to convert this signal to analog without a switch to choose between the two. So a high quality games console was hamstrung before it started because the new generation tv's were coming in and it was locked to older tech. nintendo wondered why they lost so much money]

Moral of the stories, never listen to accountants.

Back and working, with additional heat sink patches installed.

Seems a lot quieter for now.

Though I do seem to have a few extra screws left over?!?

Reacting on the forum & then later realising either no one else has reacted at all or, no one else has laughed, wondering if I should remove it or have the courage of my convictions!
I'm over thinking it.

Half the time I forget to put a like on something I enjoyed (especially in the music thread) and I'm sure I'm not alone in that...don't sweat it.

holy spit*!

this labour party election broadcast fixed solely on reform is very very odd. I'm not sure they've thought it through. wont link it, it's a woman in a pub with a pint repeating soundbites from reform knubheads. Strange.
