Mikel Silvestre

No offence mate, but this is one of the most ridiculous ideas for a transfer target I've seen in a while. Silvestre was fairly bog standard during his 'best' years at Man United - their fans didn't really rate him - he's now 4th choice centre back at Arsenal and is absolutely terrible, he's easily as accident prone as Distin - Arsenal fans despair when he plays. He's a shocking defender and not much of a footballer, I honestly can't think of any reason at all to consider him for us.

This one is up there with Stephen Hunt for me.

That may be Brownie but for me I would still like to see Distin go and not sign Senderos. Rather think I would prefer to keep Yobo as backup. Still stick to my view that Hetty should be at CB with Jags and Rodwell playing midfield from the start.

Silvestre ? no thanks.id rather keep yobo and distin.

werder bremen have a defender i really like the look of and would love to have here, naldo .

not sure how much he is worth or his contract situation , but every time ive seen him play he has stood out a mile.

edit :here he is in all his 6'6'' glory

Mate , im-humble-o , NEITHER Sylvestre NOR Senderos are good enough for us .
Me , I'd kep Yobo and ship the others out , with a view to a PROPER FUKN DADDY Centre Half pairing of Jags / Johnny H , with young Duffy getting the splinters .
Allied , to one of Victor / Vaughany , maybe both going , the pennies are starting to add up .
I'd say the 3 we know , an' 3 more .
We shall see .

P.S. - Prejudice placed to one side - Are you a Copper ???

I'm in favour of a Jags- Heitinga partnership myself, but it's been pointed out that they're both under 6ft, which could leave us vulnerable in the air. If Yobo is the only senior cover, then we leave ourselves a little exposed every time the ACON comes around. Whichever way we do it, we need someone to deputise for Baines who is happy to be a bench-warmer for the most part. Joe Ledley might fit the bill, as he'll most likely get game time in midfield. I think Silvestre is worth considering though.

BTW I'm not a copper, it's just a random name that I chose. I thought it sounded a bit Charles Dickens myself lol.

Sylvester the cat is shockingly poor. Yobo is a far better defender.

Im still championing Senderos. Like him and he's still young. On a free? Yes please.

No worries .
More of a Hemingway , man , meself , but Ch.5 ; Hard Times , always takes me to Liverpool , 1850's - it was written about the view from St. George's Church , Everton , btw - .

I don't think the height thing is an issue . If they were 6/2 , they still wouldn't get near Crouch , Carew , Adebayor , etc . If not for them , height is irrelevant .

It looks like our days of paying £10-£15m for players are over. We're back to Kilbane's, Bent's and trying to unearth an Arteta or a Cahill, unfortunately.

I personally don't think that Beckford has the ability or the attitude to be a hit with us. As we saw with the Neill transfer, even £750k is vital to us. My feeling is that we're signing the Leeds man on the offchance that he can do it in the Premiership. If not, we offload him for a couple of million. Win-win.

We need back up for Baines. Fact! (As TFSW would say). Because Bainesy, barring injury, is likely to be an everpresent, we're going to either to need to bring in an old pro or a young kid who will be grateful to get a game or we bring in someone with versatility. There aren't a huge number of players around with top flight experience, going cheap, who can play at left back and another position.

Silvestre might have his detractors, but both Fergie and Wenger can't be wrong. As a squad man, I think he can do a job for us.

If we're going to have a Jags-Heit partnership, we're going to need to play higher up the park and rely on pace. If we sit deep, as we did against Villa in the end, then the likes of Crouch, Pavyluchenko, Bendtner etc will find it easy to get a jump on our guys.

It's looking like, once everyone is fit, that Moysie will prefer Fellaini holding and Neville at right back, which leaves only one position for Heitinga. The gaffer may surprise us next year and go for two holding, as Chelsea do successfully with Essien and Mikel.

Which wont work, considering Heitinga's very slow, and Jags, although being no slouch, is not Usain Bolt either.

And i'm not sure Chelsea do play both Essien AND Mikel. It's either one or the other

Essien made 13 starts for Chelsea before his injury.

Hull, Sunderland, Burnley, Spurs, Wigan, Liverpool, Villa, Blackburn, Bolton, United, Wolves, Arsenal, City.

Mikel was available for 4 of those games before spending two months out injured himself. He started alongside Essien against Hull and Wigan and came on for Ballack to partner Essien versus Burnley.
