How can renewing a player who has demonstrably and undeniably shown himself to be awful be in anyway a positive thing?

It's nothing other than pathetic. And if Dyche were still manager and done this they'd be absolute uproar.

…because we have so many players out of contract, can’t replace them all and there’s nobody ready to replace Keane at this stage from the youth ranks.

He’ll only play if those ahead of him are unavailable, he started the last two games both of which we won, including keeping a clean sheet at Newcastle who were desperate for a win to guarantee Champions League.

I’m no Keane fan, I was critical of him when his star shone brightest a few seasons ago but I fully understand this decision.

Doubt he's on the same as his last contract. He's 4 years older and not going to play many matches. He'll have no resale value. Maybe he intends doing his badges with us.

If there is one thing Moyes is really good at, it’s coaching centre backs. Stubbs, Weir, Dawson, all veteran defenders who flourished as he knew how to prepare them properly.

If Keane ever comes in it seems likely he will rediscover some of his best form.

It makes sense and he did well under Moyes. Hopefully we’ll barely see him play and he doesn’t have a stinker when he does.
