2025/26 Michael Keane

It’s probably a genuine stat but it’s cherry picking time periods and specific games when he has played an arbitrary amount of minutes.

Looking at these stats. You can see the outliers and then it becomes what the reasoning is for that. Dyche? Lack of coaches as Dyche had a very small team whereas Carlo and Moyes have bigger coaching squads with more specialised coaches? The general quality of the team?
I would say the general quality of the team is the biggest factor, possibly the manager and coaching teams to some extent, a big part of it will be that in the worst season (23/24) he played very few games so the data is easily skewed. He only started 4 games so there's no opportunity for the stats to even out, this season showing as by the far best record being for the same reason.

Whether you like him or not, he’s a decent body for the squad.
Hardly ever injured and is very much a confidence player.
He’s played well at the end of last season and the start of this, and deserves the credit for being resilient to do so, there may also be a contributing factor in that we’re playing better under Moyes than we did under Dyche and Lampard which is putting less pressure on the defence which does tend to expose Keanes weakness.

That's the worry, though. At the moment his confidence is high and he's playing really well, I gave him motm at the weekend and I was vehemently opposed to re-signing him and whilst that is great the fear is that he is one howler away from becoming calamity Keane again. In contrast, Tarkowski hasn't been at his best this season but I never feel concerned with him that one mistake will lead to a chain reaction of mistakes and will decimate his form in the short to medium term. Hopefully I'm wrong and what we're seeing is a more resilient Michael Keane and he will be able to maintain his form even if he makes some errors. We're going to need that because, with O'Brien sequestered away at RB, he'll play a lot of games this season.

This site seems to break down all his minutes and goals conceded while he was on the pitch, so working out goals conceded per 90 (just league I’m looking at). Seems the fairest way to look at it instead of just time he has played a certain amount of minutes.

18/19 - 1.12
19/20 - 1.34
20/21 - 1.2
21/22 - 1.68
22/23 - 2.01
23/24 - 2.28
24/25 - 1.38
25/26 - 0.75

His worst spell has unsurprisingly come under Dyche. But the majority of seasons, I’d happily take him as a 4th choice CB.
I mean, that's not great numbers, and he gets to ride on the coat tails of the work done by others by including games where he might have come on for 10 mins. In any event, this seasons numbers are very pleasing.

The way I look at him is like a bird who's cheated on your mate loads of times and he keeps taking her back, hoping she'll change. Then she's the model girlfriend for a while and he's all hopeful she isn't going to let some scal from Clubmoor hang out the back of her after she's been on the Jagerbombs in McCooley's next time she's in town, but we all know full well that she's going to be playing hide the sausage at the next given opportunity. That bird is Michael Keane, and that's a metaphor that lads.

Personal experience?

It's actually a simile, mate. But my condolences for your personal experiences x

Amazing how that thing that happens every time Keane plays keeps happening.

Defensively we are crap.

Probably Tarkowskis fault though and no one ask any questions about why we will suddenly look solid when Keane is dropped for Branthwaite
I don't think we are defensively crap. I just think Branners is miles away our best defender and we will struggle without him in a game like this. Keane and Tarks are not a good balance and both of them would look better next to Jarrad. O'Brien should be in the middle ahead of both of them.

Keane can't defend facing his own goal at all. His game is generally rushing out to head the ball away before it gets into our box. In games like this against teams that are going to dominate and get in behind us he's a massive liability.
