2025/26 Michael Keane

Sure, they're both old and slow. This "partnership" thing is just more cover for Tarkowski's abysmal play however.

No it isn’t? Go into the Tarkowski thread if you want to hear my thoughts on him, I don’t rate him and haven’t ever really.

Keane has played his part in many an Everton centre back partnership that has leaked like a sieve. I don’t think it really needs explaining or justifying anymore. He’s not a Premier League standard centre back.

But right now, is he playing well - in your opinion?

Not really no. Just because he isn’t booting it in his own net doesn’t mean he’s playing well, he’s still a core part of a defence that is absolutely all over the place and panic stricken every time the ball comes near our box. The standard for him is so low that people think he’s been great every time he doesn’t outright cost us a goal with a blatant howler. He gets treated like a 17 year old academy kid, it’s embarrassing carry on from a section of our fanbase.

See this is equally as embarrassing for me. I’ve been as critical of him as anyone for years but objectively speaking, last night he played superbly. Watch it back - he wins almost every one of his duels, headers, covers for Tarkowski several times. Composed on the ball (nearly got caught out once) and authoritative.

If he wasn’t Keane you wouldn’t be skating that performance last night.

It’s ok to be wrong every now and then

Our second highest rated player last night after Ndiaye and just the 13(!) clearances.

Honestly dunno what game people watch - I’ve hated the bloke for years but he’s in good form.

See my post from whoscored, he’s the only reason we don’t lose that game last night.

I didn’t even slate his performance, that’s just something you’ve invented yourself in your own head. He’s not a good defender, never has been in the past and isn’t now, and we need to replace him or we will be stuck in the bottom half for as long as he is getting game time. The facts don’t care about your feelings, his record in the Premier League speaks for itself.

Hahaha I said do you think he played well last night and you said no.

That would suggest otherwise. As would my eyes.

Yes hes been woeful for us really and he’s not a long term solution - is he playing well this year? Also yes.
