If I could bet on him staying an extra year with a club option of a second, I would. That's how sure I am that he's going to be offered a contract and he'll accept. It's obvious, otherwise he'd be announced as leaving. I think it's different to DC Lewin, because everybody knows an offer was on the table and then withdraw and changed to lower terms - he'll be leaving, Coleman and Keane to stay.

And people can rationalise it all they like, but keeping him tells you that standards will remain very low at the club in 2025.
 

He won’t be offered the same wages that he has been on. So if he is on a reduced wage that is deemed acceptable to the club, he may actually be worth keeping on for another year.

He’d be 4th choice, and a 4th choice that gets the odd goal. I think he got 3 goals from 14 appearances last season, not bad for a centre half.

Standards will increase if we bring in 4 better starters than we had last season. We have to be realistic, it’s a mess with so many players out of contract. Replacing them all will impact overall spend.

I never thought we’d be renewing Keane’s contract but I’m not overly concerned if it happens as long as we bring in real quality elsewhere.
 
As it stands he would be needed but he is definitely fourth choice. Unless we are going out in the market for an experienced CB then he will stay. It does make sense to keep him in the background whilst strengthening other positions. This will then allow O'brien to play his natural position. Reduced wages, one year contract, plays only when required. If he cares about his football career, he may decide to move on.

The problem is Keane has done well under Moyes bar the City sub on, and he usually does for new managers for a bit, that seems to over ride his lack of composure for a while.

I'd say Keane trains hard, is punctual and reliable in everything and probably a sound lad all in all but the nerves kick in on the pitch and it takes time for managers to see that, especially when he's not first choice.
I'd say he's staying but it's not the end of the world, he's 4th choice at the end of the day
