2024/25 Michael Keane

I’d imagine that he sees his value as someone who is happy to be on the bench and support when needed - that’s quite a niche role I’d imagine and not easily replaceable.

Let us be perfectly honest, whether Keane stays or goes is a matter of how much he wants. If he is prepared to except that he is merely a squad member and cannot command a wage anywhere near what he is on at present then he should stay as it could cost too much to replace him. I think it is a purely economic decision. Same goes for DCL. Neither are good enough to play in a top half team but both are capable of filling in when injuries dictate. I would prefer that both were gone but realistically I would rather we spend any capital on improving the team rather than 3rd or 4th choice players.

I can see the logic in offering him a deal, as we had 2 center backs pull up injured towards the end of the season. Short term deal with a big cut in wages I`d not have a problem with.

If he takes a massive wage reduction and enjoys being a 4th choice then fair do's. I suspect he will want to go and play first choice somewhere else like a lower league team and if so then great, that would be my preferred choice.

We average over 2 goals conceded when he plays.

There is absolutely no way they could not get someone who is younger and is the same quality if not better from a lower league at the reduced wages they're offering him.
Of course it's possible to do that, I don't think you'll find anyone arguing otherwise. The question is more whether it's actually worthwhile.

…Scott Carson leaving Man City after 6 years and 12 trophies yet only played twice in all that time, nice if you can get it.

Just imagine his conversation with his lad years later, "wow Dad you won the league three times, won twelve trophies, you must have played a lot of games".
"What's on tv Son ?"
