Think everybody needs to accept that Keane wont be going anywhere.

Just accept it and make peace with it.
Sadly, for everybody concerned...the club, the coach, the player, the fans...I fear you are right. It's a modern tragedy really...there's no winners (apart from the selling club that rinsed us)

And who do you think will be playing alongside Mina?
Holgate, maybe Jags for a bit. Personalities matter a bit back there. Silva has to have CBs that can pass and help spring our attack that the majority of time will be down the sides via the outside backs. Think you gotta give Holgate a shot.

You are making the same assumption as everybody else. That the players will always put money first above all else. Some will, but not all of them.

I'm talking specifically about Keane here, but the same principles can also apply to Klaassen.

The lad is clearly unhappy here. Every time I watch him he looks as though he is about to burst into tears. He's making a lot of mistakes and is getting slated for it by players and fans alike. Not sure I've ever seen Jags so animated as he was after Keane's blunder for the Porto goal. His skillset is not suited to the way Silva is likely to set up and he knows it. He knows that he will get very little game time under Silva.

Conversely his skillset is ideally suited to the way Burnley set up and he knows that Dyche will be happy to take him back if the price is right. He'll have to take a hit on the wages front but he can still expect to be on much more than he was when he left as he had run his contract down.

Burnley are in the market for a new defender. They are looking at both Mawson and Gibson, both of who would cost well over £20m. He could get Keane back, somebody he knows really well who fits his system, for probably as little as £15m. That's a £10m profit on the lad in 12 months which will more than cover the cost of his increased wages.

We have to take a hit on the transfer fee but it's worth it to get him off the books. I reckon Keane, and Klaassen for that matter, are both the type of character that will be prepared to take a a reduction in income if it means getting their careers back on track. Both players have also been dumped by their national teams whilst with us too which gives them extra incentive to leave. I might be wrong, but I wouldn't automatically take it for granted that they are purely motivated by money.

Now the likes of Williams and Mirallas, they're a different matter entirely. It will take salary subsidised loans to get them off the books this summer.

I agree with your point, but for Dyche and Burnley it's not as simple as justifying his salary because they made a profit on him..... Most of the players at Burnley are likely on 30k a week, if you bring one guy in on 80-90k a week you risk unsettling the dressing room... Pretty sure the wages the new lads we signed last summer would have damaged the team spirit.... If Burnley give Keane 90k a week, alot of their other players won't be long knocking on Dyche's door

Only solution is gonna be for us to cut our loses and pay out the majority of the remainder of the 4 years he has left on his contract... Or give him another year and hope with a pacier defender beside him he can improve..

Agree mate. Thats why I said Keane eould have to take some sort of pay cut. Around £60k maybe. He'll be ion about £80k hete I reckon. I'm sure there will ne others there on around £50k so wouldnt be an issue. We may not want to take the hit ourselves thiugh. Especially if were taking hits on others at the same time like Klaassen and Bolasie.

As much as I hate to say it, I think due to his age, wages, length of contract and the fact that he'll be nigh on impossible to shift, he'll end up as a back up centre half,

Heaven help us if he ends up having to play on a regular basis,

Only read this about 800 times on this board. Maguire isn't great, folks. He's just not. Being better than Keane isn't saying much.
Apologies for that.
Not saying Maguire is great by the way. But at £17m he's been much better value than Keane. He's been a disappointment so far is all I'm saying really.
