When they retire from football absolutely none Jazz. But most will go into coaching or management before they head upstairs, and ususally at smaller clubs before they move onto one of the 20 biggest clubs in the world. Sharpies spent the last 25 years entertaining fans on match day, commentating on youth team matches and representing the club at Charity Golf events. Hardly classical schooling for a place on the board. lol
As I say, I hope he proves me wrong. He's a great guy and an even better Evertonian.
If it's meant to be like having a fan on the board then I wouldn't be against that because I do think the board and the fans have become distanced in recent years. But then he truly must represent the fans and the only way he can do that is by engaging with them and listening to what they have to say, and then feeding that back to the board. He would need to openly engage with forums like this one and the same with twitter and facebook groups. He must hold regular meetings in open forum with fans and, most importantly, he must then give feedback to all the groups he's conversed with. Sharpie would be an ideal candidate for such a role, but in reality this is just paying lip service to the fans.
