Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

The saying "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" means that you shouldn't criticize a gift, even if you don't like it very much. A gift horse, in other words, is a gift.

The term gift horse is pretty easy to remember if you imagine the horse as a present. The idiom itself probably stems from the practice of determining a horse's age from looking at its teeth. It would be rude to receive a horse for your birthday and immediately examine its mouth in front of the person who gave it to you, as if you were trying to figure out the value of your gift.

If you don't get it at least you went for it, if you don't you may look back and regret it. It sounds like you are keen so I say go and give it a try.
I agree, I rather to be disappointed because I didn’t get it, than be disappointed at myself for not trying. If it is meant to be then it will happen, if not then I will be going on our trip to Europe ?

Awe, thanks for explaining the meaning behind this say. It now makes total sense! Xx

I think Gordon along with Gray have been the brighter aspects of this season. It is specially nice that the young lad is finally getting a regular chance to play.

Good, I hope the Dr. can finally prescribe something to end to her ear issues.

Ange, how unfortunate that Bruce Springsteen's autobiography was a disappointment. Hopefully Dave Grohl's is much better, enjoy your reading.

Best wishes for Mrs. M too, I’m sure it must be worrying for you not to have your other half feeling well, so hopefully she also get the right treatment at the hospital ??

You have a good day too, mate. X

I agree @blue1948 While it is unfortunate that Karl remembrance at Goodison wasn’t as significant as we would have wished. He still is revere and remembered fondly by many of us here and on Friday, the day of his funeral, we will salute him and honour his memory once more.

Glad to hear is another fine day for you and that you got to see your grandkids this weekend.

Here still is dark but it is very chilly and it is going to continue as our highest temperature later today is only going to be 1°C and it is going to get to -7°C later tonight ? too cold for my liking. Enjoy your reading too, make the most of your last day off before beginning a busy week.

Safe travels, LT! Enjoy your time with your parents.

Hahaha, sure now blame it on me, Fred. You were the one who started the conversation, I just added a humorous spin to it given how grim the E forum was already getting. But guess from now on I just leave such remarks for this thread so we don’t get in trouble. After all, you seem to have found a retired lawyer to represent you but I haven’t gotten such a luck ☹️
Thanks Sassy.

That's a hell of a change in your weather.
You were sitting outside in shorts drinking beer at Christmas!

Good morning, mascoteers!

I hope everyone’s day is going well. I went to sleep before 9 pm last night with the desire to wake up early to make it to the gym and begin again my morning routine but it is snowing outside, after days of warm weather winter decided to show up today. So no school or work for my daughter or me today. However, I have a busy day ahead of me. When I was traveling in CR my supervisor contacted about a job opening that she thought I should pursue. It is a full time advising position but with a different department that will be mostly working with high school students wanting to enroll at my college. Since she notified me I’ve been ambivalent about applying because it would change our plans to go on our road trip throughout Europe this summer. But after many years of being a full time mom, I had also decided that after coming back from our European trip that I would be ready to pursue a FT job and resume my career goals at my college. However, this job option is coming my way several months early than I wanted to and I been having a hard time knowing what to do. I really was looking forward to our trip for many reasons, I wanted us to visit my brother in Belgium, I also wanted to visit some friends in Spain and then meet some of you in the U.K. along with going to an Everton game at Goodison. Moreover, I thought it would be the perfect time for our daughter to have such cultural experience before she begins middle school. But not applying for this position would be silly of my part as it is an amazing career opportunity for me to assist the high school Latino population that wants to enroll in College. Moreover, the pay and benefits is more than I have ever made working in public education and it will allow husband and I to save money for retirement and for our daughter’s college tuition. But then I will have to postpone our trip and working full time will change our family lives as for the past decade I have been the one fully in charged of our household tasks while the hubby works long hours during the week. So I’m confused and trying to decide what to do but the application deadline is Thursday. Thus today I’m going to be pondering my options and begin the application just in case I decide to pursue this opportunity. Anyway, I wanted to share this with you in case I’m absent the next few days then you know it’s because I’m having to concentrate on this task.

Cheers! Xx
Thanks for sharing!

Decisions, decisions. Ultimately if course only you ( and Mr SC ) can decide but here's my tuppence worth.....go for the job , it sounds a great opportunity and something you've been waiting for. Just take a shorter break to Europe taking in Belgium then an hours plane ride to Liverpool.

If you don't take the job you might regret it especially if the barriers to travel remain as at present.

Good luck with the decision.

Thanks Sassy.

Indeed. Even on Saturday the temperature was 24°C but I have gotten to expect this in our area, we usually get a warm December only to get hit with winter swiftly once January is here. Once again, for us humans we can deal with such drastic changes more easily, but I feel bad for nature and the animals that have to adjust to such weather changes so suddenly.

Thanks, Jazzy. Your tuppence is worth it, as I value your advise too. Even if it is only for a job and not to represent me here at the forum when I get in trouble ;) x

No that I wish to get in trouble again so soon but have you noticed what tuppence means in UK slang? Please forgive my childish self ?

Far be it from me to give advice but think about five years time and how you will look back. At that stage which would annoy you more/you regret more, not taking the trip to Europe or not applying for the job? Whichever it is, is the answer to your current quetion

I may well be wrong with this in which case I'm sure that the intelligentsia will correct me but here goes.

Tuppence is slang for two pence ( think cents ).

In the olden days whenever you went for professional advice ( Dr etc ) two pence was the minimum payment.

Hence tuppence worth is associated with advice or ones thoughts on a lmatter.

Gwladysover, Mrs M is about the same but hoping that hospital appointment tomorrow sorts things out. The firm I used to work for had a depot in Spalding and I worked there for several years in the 1970's, so got to know the area, including Peterborough, quite well.
My Nan’s family came from Weston Hills just outside Spalding, hills in the loosest sense it’s only 15 feet above sea levellol

The Everton forum is not a great place at the moment. You can fight and argue with whoever you want but trying to have a laugh is now frowned upon. Same happened to me in the Benitez thread last time I posted in there back in November and I actually received a 3 day ban which they lifted after a few hours for some reason. There is zero tolerance in there. So, as you say, best to keep our larking about for this thread Sass. ;)

Well, Good morning everyone on the this grey and overcast bank holiday.

What's it like in the North East @Gwladysover and @anjelikaferrett ?

Everything ok with you down in the South West @Barnfred 55 - assuming that you haven't been banned yet lol .

And on my imaginary tour of GB and Ireland - all well with you up there @larbert toffee and over there @Armaghtoffee ?

Well another day of madness yesterday. Benitez continues to lose the plot at Goodison whilst Sassy and Fred get red cards from the GOT man . Fortunately VAR intervened and reduced the red to yellow. Good job, otherwise I would have had to find and dust off my practising certificate .

So , I hope that everyone is well . My imagination must be working overtime , yesterday I was on the point of asking a stranger by County Road if he was @Terrarian , simply because he was walking a beagle. I don't get out much nowadays !

Enjoy your day guys.
I’m in the East rather than the North East. Peterborough, to be precise - bright here today.
