Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

So I've had a really bad week this week, which has resulted in me ending up in hospital. I'm ok but basically the pain was at a level where it was more than discomfort and I also vomited so took the decision to call an ambulance. I'm sat in here now with a drip on to try and get my hydration levels correct. They've given me some morphine to deal with the pain. Morphine is good for pain relief but don't want to be on it too long as side effects can be quite disturbing. I also was not eating very much so my weight had fallen below 10 stone. I'm hoping when the Dr comes round they will add them nourishment drinks to my permanent medication. I'm in good spirits but still disappointed I've ended up in here.
Sorry to hear this. Hope you are feeling more comfortable now. X

Glad you're keeping in good spirits - thats bound to help. Hope you feel better soon enough mate.

Hi I'm @messymascot aka Karl. I was diagnosed with a cancer called mesothelioma in 2019 after nearly 10 years of illness. Unfortunately this is an incurable type of cancer which is caused by asbestos exposure. I'm now entering the final stages as the cancer has grown and is starting to cause complications. Anyone who regularly visits the mental illness and depression thread is probably aware of parts of this story.

Anyways onto the thread title. Several members who visit the above thread, which I can't endorse highly enough both the thread and the regular visitors, wanted to get together and get me a ticket for the match. This was very much appreciated by me but initially I wasn't sure due to my health. However in the meantime @Earwigjoe contacted the club. They then kindly offered to supply 2 complimentary tickets. The 2 tickets were confirmed with myself today and one of my fellow West Cumbrian blues has agreed to travel with me and utilise the other. I will try to remember to take some photos and post them in here but I'm not the best at that sort of thing.

I want to use this thread to highlight what a truly great club we support as it would have been easy for them just to let the lads and lasses pay for the tickets. But I especially want to thank all the people who regularly post in the mental illness thread as they are truly magnificent. I first starting using the thread 3 or 4 years ago when I was going through a tough patch but since then I have been in the thread on a regular basis and there is always someone in there who wants to support another blue who has fallen on hard times. The clubs gesture and the fans in that thread and this forum are what make me proud to be an Evertonian. I love you all even the ones I don't always agree with. COYB The best team we could ever support. I'm glad I was chosen even though being 40 I don't remember the glory days of the 80s.

Sorry if that went on a bit but I needed to get it off my chest.
Respect mate, wishing you all the best and more.

I used to be a ginger. Mainly grey these days.

When you’ve passed the rites of ginger childhood, you’re a life member.

Magnificent job @messymascot.
You’ve rallied the Gingers like no other!

Up to a full baker’s dozen….and I’m going to have to start an actual list as I’m never remembering all that.

How are feeling today @messymascot?

And what’s the food like?

Started off really bad but days got better as it's gone along. It's hard work not knowing how you are going to be one hour to the next. I've just finished having a visit of my sisters they are the first people I've allowed in since I've been here as I don't like people seeing me when I'm badly luckily I felt good when they turned. I've decided I might let a few more folk visit as I'm going to be here until Monday at least.

The food is OK. At the end of the day it's not a 5 star hotel. Unfortunately I can't always eat it as body doesn't allow. One of the nurses kindly bought me a Calippo as I was red hot so was good.

Very kind if you to ask after me hope all is well with you and yours.

Good that your day has improved as it has gone on mate. Nice that you got to see your sisters and hopefully you feel up to seeing a few more visitors over the coming days.

I’m a greedy so and so and just had to ask what the food was like ?. Just eat when you can mate but at all times make the most of the attention of the nurses.

All good at my end, that time of the week when my head is turning towards the game and the nerves kick in. UTFT!
