Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

My son got me one of those Ancestry dna kits last Christmas so I’m going off that but the only Irish person I can find is my 3rd great grandmother born in Derry in 1811.
Are those kits really accurate? I’m often curious about them although I do know quite a bit about my own heritage- Irish for generations but Viking blood way back.

I don’t know to be honest but mine says mostly northern England - Lancashire, Cheshire and Merseyside with a chunk of Swedish and Icelandic and a bit of Irish. Not found anyone remotely Swedish or Icelandic but the rest fits. As more people go onto their database it gives them the opportunity to refine it - so I’ve lost Norwegian and gained Icelandic!

Great to hear from you again, missing your paintings. Good advice re the PSA blood test, Mr G. had blood tests this week and requested one then, they couldn’t do it as he was down for that so is going this week.

Morning all, bit rainy here first thing but has cleared away, just cloudy and very cold. Had an early FaceTime from Jess, VERY excited for her dance shows today. She’s been given a small solo featuring her one handed cartwheel, that was as much as she was prepared to say, the rest of the show costumes etc. are top secret. Watched while she had her hair done in a bun, she was a bit worried it will move. There’s that much wax, gel, pins and hairspray on it I doubt it will move for a fortnight.
Have a good day, all.💙

Well it's been an extremely interesting morning. I may have mentioned in here before that my neighbours (and landlords) have been seriously contemplating moving house, which was put on hold after they pulled out of a property last summer due to having no interest in their current house. Well they recently put it back up and now have somebody interested that is coming for a second viewing this week. They have also found a property that they are keen on, on the outskirts of Truro, which is the main infrastructure and transport hub of the county.

They were updating me with all this over coffee this morning and were showing me details of the property they are looking at buying. It has a huge indoor swimming pool in an annex, which has a large self contained flat above it. I (half) jokingly asked if they were looking for a tenant for this flat, but it seems that they may be. It's actually not something that they are actively looking to do, but they would make an exception for me. They also mentioned that Peter, the son, in another year or two may be looking at moving himself, and he of course owns the house I'm currently living in.

This house is far too big for my needs and I've always known it isn't a long term solution for me. Plus living in Truro would give me far more independence not to mention a saving of circa £5/600 pm on my current outgoings. Mind you I'd probably spend half of that on dining out. It has it's own outside area which Rob says is quite private but I'd be quite happy for them to join me occasionally for a summer cocktail or to throw a steak or two on my barbie. The down sides are moving away from North Helford, which is, IMO, the most beautiful part of the UK Plus, although the flat is quite large (around 2000sq ft), it only has 1 bedroom so I'd probably need to invest in a sofa bed in case I had visitors. To counter this I can quite easily get to most areas of Cornwall from Truro, so I can get to visit all the favourite haunts from my past plus there's a twice hourly train service to Falmouth.

At this moment, nothing is set in stone and they want to sell their house before they commit to the purchase, so I'm not getting too excited over it. And even if it goes through quickly I probably wouldn't move until the end of this year at the earliest as they have work planned for the new property. But they did say that me going with them makes it much more doable for them from a cost perspective, plus Rob knows the guy selling it through his Round Table connections, so even if there is a delay in his own sale this guy could possibly agree to take it off the market once Rob commits. Anyway he's taking me to see the flat tomorrow so I'll have a bit more of an idea after that.

As a matter of pure interest, the person potentially buying Rob's property is the widow of John Nott who is looking to downsize after her husband died last year. Somebody Pete possibly came across during his days in the industry.

Wow, that's a lot going on. Seems like an ideal move for you. I hope you like the flat.

Hi folks. I hope everyone is having a nice Sunday. I did overtime this morning and we took some stuff over to our new house - mostly garage/outside things. I haven't been over for a couple of weeks - it was lovely to see some daffodils and crocuses in the back garden. We also had a look at how the decorator is getting on - he's finished the bedrooms and they look lovely. We're hoping that we will be in a position to move in in about 4 weeks.
It's been a funny day weather wise. Sun, rain, freezing cold- sometimes all at the same time.
