Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Agreed AT. Used to play a lot of golf a few years ago ( mostly to entertain clients) and I found golf clubs to be elitist, unwelcoming souless places
Woolton Golf Club were our clients when I was assistant manager in Woolton.. We had our Xmas party there one year and at the time they had a bar that was men only. Cal deliberately went in there to get served just to get a reaction. When they refused to serve her she called them all a load of old farts before walking out. I was so proud of her but my boss who was a member there had a duck egg. :)

I had a similar but much more working class experience when I first moved to the North East. We went into the local working men's club and was not allowed in the bar. I politely enquired would they do the same to a black person . It was the start of a long campaign of harassment by me. Women weren't ' full members' . To the point that they refused to allow the widow of a deceased member to go on a free club trip to the seaside with her kids because she wasn't a full member! Mr F didn't quite know what to do but his Mum loved me for it🤣

Good morning folks. I'm pleased to hear @jazzy and @Barnfred 55 are starting to feel like themselves again. Well done on the pumpkins @Gwladysover. I'm very impressed. I'm going home today. Chris is definitely happier in himself We're currently in a marathon Lord of The Rings viewing. Film 2 has just started 🤣.
Charlotte ( daughter) has just messaged me to say she has found a house to rent so that's very exciting- she wants to move out before the baby arrives - which I completely understand. It's not too far from us. I can't believe Mr F and I are going to be empty nesters! Speaking of Mr F I've bought tickets for the Dublin racing Festival at Leopardstown next February. Also got flights with Aer Lingus from Leeds Bradford for a very reasonable price. So Belfast on 5 Jan and Dublin on 1 Feb! Should be fun.
My poorly friend is doing much better - still in hospital but out of ITU. Still a long road ahead for him. He will need extensive surgery on his leg to rebuild the lost tissue.
I've also put my name down on the new ground season ticket list - a retirement goal 🤣
Have a lovely day all x
Great news on Chris. Fingers crossed for the oncologist meeting but I'm sure everything will be fine. Dead jealous about Leopardstown. I've been trying to talk my scouse mates into organising a trip but they're put off by the Dublin hotel prices.

I was very close to a lot of my clients (too close tbh) which became a problem when I had to say no to them. It rarely occurred in the old days as nearly all of them were millionaires, in assets at least. But many of them were in to property and during the property squeeze of around 2009-2013 (when I retired) we just closed the door to them. Even for residential mortgages. I took it hard and it really affected my health. I absolutely hated my final 5 years in the bank and jumped at the opportunity for redundancy/early retirement. I'd always been pretty good at separating home/work life but that was a bad time for me. I'm glad you've been able to sort your head out mate. I know from experience that it is horrible. I imagine Anj must have had some terrible experiences when she was a union rep.
Very much so. My friend and I used to joke that we slept with our members. That translates as waking up in the middle of the night worrying about them or thinking you hadn't done something you should have. I especially hated representing alcoholics - essentially decent people in the grip of an awful addiction that eventually cost them their job, home, family and sometimes their lives.

Yeah the hotel prices were a bit steep but my soon to be settled Tui refund will pay for that 🤣

I just had a wobble at the subject matter of a bit of work I was doing. It was good to share it here and get it off my chest and move on. I’m normally good at work me and home me being like 2 different people but it’s good to see beyond that at times lest we become robotic in our professional lives.

Now I rarely see work involving alcoholism that doesn’t also involve cocaine. They appear to be hand in hand now in every walk of life sadly, even in quiet parts of the world like here.

I'm sure I'd remember if I ever copped off with you mate. :)

Sunday night was always Baby Elephant/Squires. It's a miracle how I always managed to get down those stairs without breaking my neck.
