Yes you’d be advised to keep it to babies. And I don’t know if it’s a Wigan thing but if you described someone (or something) as bonny here they would be pleased. I remember when I was little my dad got a Cortina estate car and my uncle describing it as a bonny brake - I’d no idea what he was on about.

Coming from the south ( although I've lived in the North twice as long as the South ) I'd always associated bonny with fat or perhaps more PC "big boned".

I now see that I was wrong all those years and it really means attractive . How would the ladies of this thread have reacted if you were called "bonny"? Well Anje might have thought it was her fave gulity pleasure - Bonny B I suppose.

I'm going to risk it tonight when I give Mrs J her bunch of flowers " Here you are my little clumper" - wish me luck lol

You might wish to chose your wording - if someone called me a bonny woman I would be pleased. As I am no longer a baby if they called me a crumper- not very pleased at all. It’s all about the subtle nuances of context and little crumper is something of an oxymoron - good luck

Grandkid no 3 was a bit of a porker (I can say that I’m her Nan) as a baby. She must have been about 6 months old, I was out with her and met a neighbour who on seeing her remarked “Oh she’s Bonny isn’t she?” I immediately knew what she meant. lol

And before someone picks me up on it I know I described the beautiful new addition as a little crumper, but again it’s because babies are little. You have to feel sorry for Mr P grappling with Wiganese, but after 38 years and the required dose of gravy injections I think he’s getting the hang of it

I'll take your advice Val and stick to my usual "here you are Gremlin " . It's never let me down !
 
Good morning. How fab is language?! Crumper is a new one on me but I love it. My baby girl, now 25, fitted the description perfectly at 11lbs 6oz! Bonny lass is a term of endearment in these parts. As Val said it very much depends on context. Incidentally up here any female partner is often referred to as 'our lass' which I also love.
I don't know if it still happens but in Liverpool there was always a subtle difference between ' me fella' and "my fella' The former was boyfriend, the latter was husband. As I said before, language is beautiful.
