Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning all, cloudy and damp, very mild too. Off to York today, can’t keep away from the place, fourth time we’ve visited this year. One of the advantages of having a son who works for the railway is when he invites you for a day trip by train you get to travel free lol. Weather forecast isn’t great but I’m sure we can make the most of it. Have a good day all.?
Sounds nice, have a great trip ;)

Never been to York but heard it's a great place to visit.

The Viking Centre drawing you back H?

Good choice of films there Fred ;)
Yeah, I thought so too. By the time they got here I had already discounted Gangs of New York as I thought it may be a bit too violent for Michelle. Rob said he didn't want to watch Last of the Mohicans. Have you seen it before I asked. No but I know I won't like it. God help me. :) So we watched Arn and he mumbled and grumbled all the way through it, kept on trying to predict what was going to happen next, and declared at the end that it was all a bit too girly for him. I mean, it's set in the crusades and half the film comprised people knocking 10 tons of crap out of each other. lolMichelle, on the other hand, said she really enjoyed it.

And therein lies the problem. What he likes, she doesn't and vice versa. And at least a quarter of my library neither would like as they don't like science fiction, horror, fantasy, Quentin Tarantino or Leonardo DiCaprio. So I said we'd take turns choosing the movie to watch and he could pick the next one. Roll on next week.

Only thing I not been able to do is visit the Castle, museum and Cathedral because of the expense, need 100 quid on top of your spending money to do it all, will hopefully manage it one day
You need to get your arse up to Liverpool Sue. All the cathedrals and the majority of the museums are free. No castle though I'm afraid, but we do have a castle street which has some excellent restaurants.

Besides visiting Goodison or Anfield I had never been to Liverpool till a couple of years back , A Train Driver I work for gave me some free tickets on the Birmingham to Liverpool route so I had a day up there with my son, managed to walk round docks and do the Beatles Tour and visit The Cavern but never got in the museum Cathedral, my intention is to do a weekend there in the future

My niece has 3 kids who are messy buggers and Daisy thinks it's picnic time everytime I go. Buries her face in the couch and under all the furniture, she's a nightmare lol
When my kids were little, the cat we had then just used to sit beside the high chair, knowing that all manner of treats would fall from above.

I don't think there's been a bigger change to UK culture over the last 40 years than drink driving Blue. Youngsters today would be horrified by what happened back then.

It wasn't just widespread. It was normal.
Totally agree. Used to regularly drive home from Warrington to Liverpool after a night out with the then workmates. I'm horrified when I look back.

The cathedrals are at the opposite end of Hope Street, so easily a five to ten-minute stroll for most people. Very different builds, but brilliant in their own right.

Culturally, the normality of drinking has been diminished in wider society, so rightfully drink-driving is now seen as dangerous and reckless as it's always been.

As you say, it was pretty normal for people to have a good few drinks (three to six pints, or more) and drive. To be honest, many became quite adept at it.*

It's like working and having a drink: you'd get sacked in most places now, while previously having a few at lunchtime was normal and straight in after work.

*In the sense of, while morally wrong, they did it for years and caused no accidents.

Peterborough museum have some half term activities this week, so we took Hannah and Jessica (grandkids no 3 and 4) along. On the Halloween trail, came across an exhibit featuring my old school uniform, just the blazer, scarf and beret though @Barnfred 55, no undergarments. lol My Grammar schooldays being the stuff of nightmares Halloween trail seemed appropriate. No, the broomstick wasn’t my school transport, in case anyone was wondering. lol View attachment 188423
I so wanted to show you this. My school uniform. We definitely have parallel lives!Screenshot_20221027-125054_Google.webp
