Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Happy Saturday @messymascot and all fellow Blues.

Karl, I just noticed that you were checking out the Everton Youth Teams Thread (sorry for stalking your moves) and that truly was comforting as I haven’t see you checking out any other threads the past few days. I hope this means you are feeling a bit better today ??

I appreciate @Reedy1979 suggestion about posting our most memorable Everton moments. It has been very nice reading everyone’s stories and hopefully you get to tell us about yours too.

Sending a big hug your way. Xx
Sassy. I knew you were very capable of blackmail, not to mention the odd bit of extortion and enticement. But I never had you down as a stalker too. lol

Thanks Sassy. I had my lateral flow test yesterday which was negative. Had my PCR test this morning. Results take 72 hours. My two daughters organise everything. They have smart phones which seem to be required for everything these days. It does annoy me when dealing with outfits that 'assume' you have a smart phone. I have a mobile phone which makes and receives phone calls. It also does 'texts' which I don't bother with. I don't want or need a smart phone. Rant over! Sassy, you look after yourself too and that is extended to all the good people on this fine website.
I understand your frustration, it does seem a lot of our lives revolve now days around technology, smart phones, or applications, but for older folks it is a constant challenge. Thankfully you have your great daughters that seem to take very good care of you and your wife, so at least they are there to help and guide you through this new technology challenges.

I hope the PCR test comes back negative and that you are just suffering from a cold. X

I'm struggling but I think the first time I watched Everton live was away to Bolton in the late 70s, possibly 1980.
Boxing day and the game was abandoned at half time due to heavy snow.
It was 1-1, scorers were two great players, Frank Worthington and Bob Latchford.

I had my Everton hat and scarf on, but my step dad had us in with the home fans and we walked round to the railings dividing the Everton supporters as so I could stand close with them.

Got pelted with snowballs from Everton fans laughing their socks off!
I remember watching Everton at Goodison on Boxing Day (1940's). It was against Blackpool and there was 6 inches of snow on the pitch but the game went ahead. There was a massive crowd as the Echo had said that Stanley Matthews would be playing. He didn't play and I think a lot of clubs played the same card to attract big crowds. The main thing I remember about the game was that there was 6 inches of snow on top of the crossbars. In about the 5th minute of the game, Eddie Wainwright had a shot at the Blackpool goal which skimmed the bar and took chunk, like a smile, out of the snow on the crossbar. It was still there at the end of the game. Weird the things you remember! We won 5 - 0.

Hope you get better soon mate.

I always enjoy your posts from a bygone era. I sometimes hum the tune from the old Hovis ads in my head as I read them.

Seriously though, I really do enjoy them.

Sassy. Way back in the 1960's I was Computer Manager for the firm I worked for and installed their first mainframe computer. By the mid-1970's we had our 8 Depots all on-line to the computer. Can't be bothered to learn and keep up with what goes on now! Too many more important things to do like how to get in and out of the bath now my joints don't work properly! lol

I love your memories of old matches. Genuinely interesting and nostalgic. Thank you for sharing them.

Hey @messymascot .. this is one of the first threads I go to every day … even though I don’t post too much …I come back here to check in as honestly mate it was heartbreaking to read your story.. but you’re an inspiration! Your positive and keep going forward attitude is an example to all!! Keep strong mate!!! ??

Hope to see you back and posting often again!

I'll try not to leave such a gap as I could see how worried people got. I had some really tough days but this is the beginning of the fightback.

I agree @Methuselah there are more important things to do, such as telling us all your entertaining stories. X
