Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good morning, hope you all had a good weekend.

My tuppence on music is ignore the pop charts, pop music is played to the masses. I prefer bands, bands that put the hard roads in touring and up until recently didn't get any air play. The Beatles were a pop group they got a lot of fanfare and radio play.

A lot of the stuff I listen too is in genres that didn't get airplay until modern times but still sold out stadiums and have been going for decades. I mainly listen to Rock, Indie, metal, Hip-Hop, and trance.

So is the most successful band a pop band that lasted 8years that had all the help in the world from the media or bands that play to 100,000 people 20/30/40 years into a career? Music is subjective, there's not a chance i could name a top 5 as I like too many bands and too many genre's

Have a good day all now I've had my anti-Beatles rant lol can't be doing with the rubbish about them being the best band, maybe the best pop act but even then I'd be surprised, it isn't all about pop charts and record sales.
Maybe it's a generational thing T but to a lot of guys ( perhaps of my age but honestly I'm not so sure ) the Beatles were and remain the greatest band ever.

The reason isn't the incredible record sales but the incredible body of work they produced with recordings as diverse as Love Me Do to the amazing She's Leaving Home.

They literally transformed rock and pop music. In actual fact not only did they create a genre they influenced virtually every artist in the 30 years that followed .

Give Sgt Pepper a listen , it's still fresh , relevant and interesting.

Anyone who can conceive of Yesterday or Eleanor Rigby is rightly hailed as a genius.

To have an orchestra or sittar playing on a pop record was not only ground breaking but totally unheard of .

If you hear their first record you could never believe that within 8 years they could evolve and produce music of such complexity and beauty.

The greatest band ever? Not even close.

Pro Beatles rant over lol

Don't get me wrong, I understand how ground breaking they were and what they did for the industry, that goes without saying, I just think it's very very hard to elevate just one band above others who have a bigger longer lasting legacy. I can't name a best band and there's too much good music by loads of bands.

Anyway, change of direction, just watching this, how can you get to this stage with a kid living there? there was a house like this on my street growing up

@Terrarian talking about a generational thing in music.....

I went to the NW Audio Show on Saturday, showcasing the best hi fi .

Must have been about 60 rooms playing different systems and I swear that at least 20 of them were playing either Pink Floyd or Dire Straits, both of which I am fine with but come on guys , variety is the spice of life.

Eventually I found a room playing some Kate Bush , Suzanne Vega and then some Miles Davis , bliss. Only "problem" was the system cost over £150k. Honestly ,I kid you not. Ridiculous but it was like being at a gig.

Morning Mascoteers,

So after an early morning musical joust with T about just how good the Beatles were another day begins.

Lovely bright , clear , sunny day. No rain forecast for at least a week so looks like time to get the hosepipe out.

All quiet on the Everton front , I'm coming around to the view that there won't be any activity until the start of our new financial year which I presume is 1 July.

Big week for Rosie. She goes in for her neutering op tomorrow, she won't like that.

So mum's shopping ,gym, gardening , reading same old , same old.

Have a good one guys.

Hope you are OK today mate.
I'm fine Jazz. Looking forward to my day out.

Following on from the conversation with Roydo yesterday I've already had 2 "episodes" this morning. First was waking up to the scent of lilies, Cals favourite flower, which stayed with me for at least half an hour. Second time this has happened,no bedroom doors or windows opened at the time. Then after getting out of the shower the distinct aroma of Cals favourite perfume, coco mademoiselle.

Well that's 20 minutes of your life you won't get back Jazz?

Morning all, what was a beautiful morning has quickly clouded over. Re The Beatles, we have a friend who is a musician (a drummer) in his forties who just doesn’t “get” them, doesn’t think they are that great musically and can’t see all the fuss. To me they remain the greatest ever and I have only to hear the first chords of a song and I am transported back to my teenage years, I was 10 when Love Me Do was released, given my age away there lol. In My Life is my favourite ever, lyrics are just beautiful and the piano, which everyone thinks is a harpsichord, recorded at half speed to give that unique sound, just brilliant. Beatles plug over, have a lovely day, everyone.?
