Messi "best player of all time"

I would say Messi's ego is bigger then Ronaldo's. He just shows it in a different way. Ronaldo is a proper team player who gives his all every single match and hates losing. Messi gets a strop on when things are not going his way, it's just very rare as to when that happens.

I watch the Spanish footy quite a bit mate, and I remember watching a Madrid league game, the ball gets crossed into the box, Madrid players runs to the near post to score, camera pans to Ronaldo behind the lad who scored, and he's kicking off, throwing his hands in the air because the lad who scored didn't leave the ball for him to tap in. Whilst the other Madrid players are celebrating with the lad who scored, Ronaldo was walking back to the half way line with a face like a smacked arse, and there have been plenty of occasions I've watched him have a pop at players for something as stupid as them not passing to him, I remember him having a rant at Gareth Bale because Bale had the gall to have a shot at goal instead of giving the ball to Ronaldo. There were reports in Spain about his attitude to other team mates, falling outs in the changing rooms right, left and centre, and IMO that is the problem with him, it's always got to be about him.

IMO Messi for me is the better team player, runs his socks off, does the defensive side of the game, you never see him whinging at team mates, is really unselfish in how he plays the game, always plays with a smile on his face, even when he's getting kicked all over the gaff, he just gets up and gets on with it.

Maybe so but he does it because he wants to win. Its infectious and can carry a team through. Neither player has had much of an opportunity to show what they are like with their backs against the wall as they play for ridiculous clubs but in the fleeting instances of which it has happened I think Ronaldo has stepped up more. If I was in the trenches and had to choose someone to battle alongside me I would choose Ronaldo over Messi.

Messi's body language during the anthem in the last game was weird too. Does he always do that?

Theres countless examples throughout his career of just the opposite of this, more than anything the Classicos against Joses Madrid where they would kick seven shades of scheisse out of him and he would get up and stick it to them in the best way possible. He scored a hat trick when they were losing their last qualification match to qualify. Weren't things going his way in these instances?

You are doing the same in the opposite way for Cronaldo who has had plenty of non-performances in big games just as he has had many big game performances.

The argument is so tiresome at times and it's mainly due to stuff like this.

that's a cop out Walken. If you can tell me where I am being hypocritical then do so.

I'm not tribal I just can't understand why people spend so much energy on bringing all these other factors in to back up their personal opinion when basically I believe it can be easily judged on just what they do with the ball.

Nobody seems to respond to the point that they are both amazing goalscorers but only one of them is arguably the best playmaker and dribbler in the history of the game on top of that.

People seem to go out of their way to find any other way to place one above the other.

I can't explain the performance against Roma. Possibly just great tactics and defence on Romas part. Possibly something else. Maybe he bottled it, but I'd argue his career suggests not. I won't be using a couple games to create a false narrative about a player.

Was a clear Messi over Ronaldo fan but now I'm pretty sure most would agree that Cristiano Winky, Face-Slappy, Whingy, Give-it-to-Me Ronaldo is the better player, certainly currently and arguably over time.

But I'm pretty sure Messi is much better company, a nicer guy and a better team player.

"A neat goal"?!! Blimey, you're not easily pleased! No more than a handful of players could've taken that ball down with the first touch and the second touch was sublime.

I don't really care who is the best between these two - I just regard it as a privilege to watch both of them play, just as it was to watch Pele, Best, Beckenbauer, Cruyff, and Maradona. If I had to choose one as the Greatest of All Time it would be Maradona, not just for his genius but for his heart and passion. If Argentina were suddenly decimated by injuries and had to call in an outsider to play you just know that even at the age of 58 and with all his health and other issues, he'd be the first down on the pitch in an extra-extra-extra large sized kit. Not sure that would apply to some of the others.

My one regret is that I never saw Di Stefano!

All sorts on this forum would have Ronaldo marked as a show pony from a pub league and Messi as too light weight for the PL.

Both Messi and Ronaldo are clearly exceptional players and rightly considered to be the best 2 football players of their generation but for me, Ronaldo tops it as the very best. For me, personality doesn't come in to it. Messi plays with a smile on his face all the time and might be a lovely guy to hang out with but Ronaldo seems to have that absolute 100% desire to win every single time. The fact that he's now 33 and still has the same physique he had when he was 21 shows the commitment he puts in to training every single day. He may have lost a little of his pace but can still out run most of the younger defenders and he can certainly out jump them for a header.
I'm pretty sure that if both went on the transfer list this summer there would be far more demand for Ronaldo amongst the top clubs.
