Messi "best player of all time"

Ronaldo is a better leader of men, Messi is the better player. Pretty simple really.

Ronaldo will most likely go on to become a manager whereas Messi won't.

Not sure about 'best ever' but Ronaldo has played in Portugal, England, Spain and now Italy and performed at world class level in each. Hes also dragged Portugal through games.

Messi has played for the best club side in the world all his career and theyre setup and tailored for him...at Argentina he looks a shadow.

Its Ronaldo every time for me.

As for best player ever, why does it go to a forward player?

What are you basing this on? Ronaldo dragged Portugal through the groups of the 2018 World Cup with 4 goals in 3 games, and then went missing against Uruguay where they were knocked out. Messi dragged Argentina through the groups of the 2014 World Cup with 4 goals in 3 games and continued to contribute with them reaching the final. He was also awarded player of the tournament.

You can't mean the 2016 Euro's as Ronaldo failed to step up in several of the big games in that competition and Portugal must surely go down as one of the worst winners of an International competition ever with the amount of draws they got.

It's easier to breakup beautiful football than it is to create it.

Looking at the goal scoring stats of Messi and Ronaldo in La Liga it's obviously not...

Can't beat a good cultured defender. Sammer, Baresi, Martina etc.

I dont really agree with it being easier to breakup beautiful football than it is to create it though.

The benefit that attackers have is that they can make mistakes. If Messi misses a sitter in the 5th minute it's ok as he has another 85 minutes to rectify it. He could play crap for 80 minutes and then score a hat trick in the other ten minutes and ends up having a great game. If a defender messes up just once in a game it results in them not having a good game.

He wasn't even the best player in his own team, never mind the tournament. He received that award from Adidas who sponsored both him and the Golden Ball award.

You can downplay it all you want but in the group stage:

Scored the deciding goal in a 2-1 win vs Bosnia
Scored twice against Nigeria
Scored a last minute winner against Iran.

Also stepped up with a penalty in the Penalty Shoot out in the Semi Final vs Holland. People say he never steps up for his country. He clearly did in 2014.

Ronaldo scored an excellent hat-trick vs Spain this year, there is no denying it, but 1 goal was a penalty and the other was a howler from de Gea. Other than that, he didn't do a lot, and that's why they got dumped out vs Uruguay at the first knockout stage.

I wasn't even arguing about Ronaldo but sure, a handful of goals against the mighty Bosnia, Nigeria and Iran are the same as a hat-trick against Portugal's rivals Spain.

A howler from De Gea, what about the Nigeria free kick when the keeper was barely even standing in his goal? That golden ball of the 2014 World Cup was a massive joke, if he'd have stepped up at all Argentina may have won that World Cup, but he clearly didn't.

I didn't say they were the same as the hat-trick vs Spain, but let's not pretend Messi isn't capable of match winning heroics on that level either. He destroys the top English sides repeatedly when playing them and has scored some of the best goals ever and in finals. The quality of Ronaldo's hat-trick was really solely down to his late free kick and the other 2 goals made it seem far better than it actually was. But Messi can easily match those moments which he has proved time after time.

Argentina just haven't been very good over the last decade and been poorly managed at times as well. Dybala not getting a chance this time for example.

Not aimed at you specifically but Ronaldo is seen in the same category as Messi by many when it's goal scoring that is the main reason. He's played 152 more games in his career than Messi, and is only ahead by 33 goals. In a comparable number of games, Messi is far superior and you only have to look at the assists record to see the more well rounded player.
