Messi "best player of all time"

He is world class and defo up there but wouldn't say he is the best. I honestly would say Ronaldo is better. Messi is more technically brilliant than Ronaldo but Ronaldo is a winner and has done it around the world at different clubs and won something with Portugal. Messi has stayed at one of the best clubs in the world all his career and done nothing with Argentina. Needs to move to show he can be amazing no matter where he goes for me.

I agree with your assessment on the things Cristiano Ronaldo is better at, but some of those physical attributes come from genetics, so of course Ronaldo is going to be more dominant in the air given the height advantage.

The playing for different clubs argument doesn't prove much in my opinion. The way this argument is used, it is as if Ronaldo has been one of the World's best while playing for Stoke while Messi has had the luxury of Barca players around him. Ronaldo has also been at the very top clubs and still is. Man United, Real Madrid, Juventus after his initial breakthrough. The real test of that argument is how Messi does in the Champions League against the top sides of those other main nations. And he has proven any doubters well and truly wrong by absolutely destroying English sides more than any other player - including Ronaldo.

As for the other Ronaldo, one of the best ever and hindered by injuries but he's not in Messi's category in my opinion. Goals wise he's comparable and as a Striker he had everything required in that position, but Messi's vision and passing ability sets him apart from every player that's ever lived, including Pele, Maradona, Zidane, both Ronaldo's and the rest.

The playing for different clubs shows that Ronaldo has been able to adapt to different sides, conditions and different leagues and still contribute and be successful. It's a very different thing playing in different leagues, it's fine to say Messi scores against English sides, and he does, but you're talking about one off games, without the physical demands of the English league week, in week out. It's certainly different, no matter how you attempt to portray it. The only other side we've seen Messi play for is Argentina, and despite moments, he's never looked as dominant as he has for Barca. So that will always be a black mark against calling him the greatest of all time. A great of his time no question, but not the greatest of all time, not even close.

Most of the players you mention there have World Cup Winners medals, Messi doesn't even have a Copa America winners medal.

And Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't looked as dominant for Portugal either. The International game is different to the club game.

The last point is flawed because by that argument you could say Blaise Matuidi is better than George Best and Johan Cruyff simply due to his World Cup Winners Medal. If Messi was French he'd have a World Cup Winners Medal. If he had been Brazilian when Pele was around he would too.

But he has for other club teams and to be fair does hold International honours with a side that arguably doesn’t boast the talent of Argentina.

Not really my point that though was it. For all the argument for Messi to be an all time great the fact he’s not done it on the biggest stage of all and doesn’t have that WC Winners Medal, or done it for any other side except Barca really counts against him

Yeah cos it's the people who don't idolise Messi who are the weird ones.o_O
I don’t idolise anyone . But Anyone who can’t see how great a player Messi is without being a blatant troll really needs to either start watching another sport or just give up altogether as they are obviously watching something without understanding it.

3 Copa America finals and a World Cup final = nothing  Rightio. As for the latter point, it's pretty weird in this day and age for loyalty to one club to be a negative. We cry like you wouldn't believe when Barkley or Lukaku leave us, then put someone down for not leaving their club.

Did he win any of them? Getting a final means nothing. Wouldn't say Ronaldo has been disloyal with his moves. Just wanted to prove himself in different leagues.

Ronaldo played under Fergusons Utd with teammates like Tevez, RVN and Rooney. Real Madrid and Juventus. He’s hardly slummed it. Sporting Lisbon barely counts .

How many players see out a full career at 1 huge club while performing to the highest level ? That’s not an easy task .

Not saying he slummed it but each league is very different. It is exceptional but he has a team built around him with other world class players every season. Just wish he would put himself to the test somewhere else to be honest.

I don’t think a player needs to mate. If you’re brilliant you’re brilliant, regardless of where you are. I think they’ve both enhanced other players rather than other players have enhanced them.
Messi for me but Ronaldo is superb too.

He is defo brilliant mate and I would much rather watch Messi but I think it's fine margins between the two of them and I think Ronaldo edges because of this. Great for footy really that we are even having this debate and we have all got to witness them play.
