The region I'm from is famous in Germany for its open and jovial people (which doesn't necessarily mean much coming from other regions where people usually have a huge log up their backsides). Hmmmm, I'm trying to make an educated guess. Once spent a week near the Mosel and found most people there surprisingly friendly. Similar in Köln. We are visiting Hamburg in a couple of weeks because my wife's German family (who live in Hesse) have often told us that it's also another friendly area.
