We would never have signed Arteta, Pienaar or a number of other players if we solely judged them on what they did at their previous clubs.

Considering how highly he was rated before he signed for Man Utd and how good he looked in Holland (yes, usual caveat about Dutch league applies), a loan with a view to buy makes perfect sense. Worst case scenario - you have a crap player on loan for 6 months. We've had plenty of those - in fact we've got one right now. Best case scenario - player performs to his potential, we sign him for the agreed fee and we have a young, quality player.

From memory Yobo was a loan with option to buy as well initially

ya know what i mean mate, we arent gonna be signing 7-8 players in January, so would hope that if we are after a Depay or the like then it's down the list and we have a more needed position higher,
Been saying for a long time now we should have been replacing Barry. If his legs go at any point then we have no midfield.

But then we have still not really signed a back up striker or alternative for Ross, nor a back up right back so I wouldn't hold my breath on us making a logical signing.

He hasn't really got legs as it is. His game doesn't rely on pace at all, which is why he's been able to play so long into his career.

Man turns like a bus

no but for what he does well, still warrants a first team place. The minute he really struggles to last 90 minutes at all or starts getting niggly injuries far too often is the point where as a player he either takes one big move to america/villa or he retires.

Said it a long time, perfect example is Distin. We wanted one more year out of him for around 3 years, then on that last final year his legs went within the 3 month summer break. The club gambled and look what happened, only benefit ironically was that it led to stones playing more and in that sense, allowed us to sell him for more money this summer.
