Exactly this. We are utterly paranoid about some vendetta against us. It's newsworthy because we haven't been relegated in 71 years. Other fans are enjoying it because we are a "big club" in trouble. I loved it when the geordies went down, I loved it when West Ham went down and everybody loved it when Leeds imploded. There's no agenda against us, there is an agenda FOR the Sky 6.

It’s a media story, because we are quite a big club in terms of English football and have never been relegated for about 70 years.
Added to that we have spent half a billion it’s always going to be news worthy.
If we go down, we will be the modal and reference point for every other club (Newcastle) out the top 6 who spend a load of cash.

We need to accept the fact that the media doesn't care about us at all unless we are negatively impacting the Sky 6 are awesome narrative. Then they deride us, just like every other club in that situation. They don't hate us, they don't even give us a second thought.

The sad thing is, we could have been a Sky 6 club if we hadn't had a succession of owners in the 90s who couldn't capitalise on our standing in the game. Back then nobody gave two turds about Man City and Chelsea.

We have behaved with dignity. We have not got every English club banned from Europe. We have welcomed foreign teams to Goodison and befriended them - Bayern in 85 an example. We have behaved on our travels abroad....however that shower has somehow managed to get the media to wipe its memory of all their atrocious behaviour over the years.

In 1989 I cried for the 92 - literally. It was a tragedy. Meanwhile Heysel seems to be forgotten.
