James McFadden attends Motherwell pre-season training

James McFadden has been training with former club Motherwell as they begin their pre-season preparations.

McFadden, a product of the Fir Park club's youth system, left the Steelmen in 2003 to join Everton.

The 29-year-old ended his second spell at Goodison Park this summer, having rejoined the Toffees from Birmingham last year.

Capped 48 times by Scotland, the forward's last international appearance came in 2010.

Motherwell are preparing to enter the third round of Champions League qualifiers, which will take place in late July/early August.

Stuart McCall's side finished third in last season's Scottish Premier League but gained a Champions League qualifying spot by virtue of second-place Rangers' ineligibility for Europe.
